About The Beehive

The Beehive on Sedgeletch Road in Sunniside, near Houghton-le-Spring, has long been a popular fixture of the local drinking and dining scene. The pub still has the old Vaux Brewery signage inside, along with lots of original features and is open daily from 11.30am with food served Wednesday to Sunday right through from 12 noon onwards. You can eat in the restaurant or bar area as well in the beer garden when the weather permits. Expect a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and delicious home-cooked food. Plus live music every Saturday from 9pm.

Visited the beehive on Saturday evening and wasn't disappointed with the service and especially the food.Food was really good and the portion sizes were massive. Will definitely be going back.

Nice food and big portions but quite pricey overall. We have visited a few times but find the staff, in particular the managers, to be quite abrupt and less welcoming than others. During our most recent visit we were rushed off our table while we were still drinking after only 1 course - not impressive, especially when the bar is full. Sadly, I don’t think we will be returning and will not be recommending to others.

Lovely pub and great service from all staff. A lot of hype around the food which drew us to book. Unfortunately, we found the food to be quantity over quality as whole. The food and size were very Instagram friendly but all five of us agreed there was too much and the quality didn't reflect the pricing. Again, the pricing maybe reflected the size, not the taste. Would go back for a drink as the pub itself is really nice, but portions / pricing needs to be re-aligned.

We booked for 5 people for our 30th wedding Anniversary On our booking I asked for 1 person to have the tomahawk steak. Firstly the meals we did receive were lovely but unfortunately no tomahawk and lots of different reasons why… sold out, no longer on menu, to expensive, butcher didn’t have any and I should of rang 2 days before to check…. A message from them would have been much better customer service and we would have went elsewhere. The lamb shank just didn’t have the same appeal but heyho, we had lovely food and the service was great. If your going when it’s hot make sure you take a fan as it’s very hot in the back room Would I go again…. Not sure really But if you do go make sure you follow the above lol

Fantastic value for money and a great choice on the menu. Steak and peppercorn flatbread with the best chips and Santorini Sensation for the wife both polished off and very full.

Food was lovely had the steak flatbread & the cornflake cake with custard. Service was quick & the ladies very nice and pleasant. Been wanting to try for ages glad we did. We will be back to try a Sunday lunch.
