I ate in the bar and enjoyed a lovely Welsh Rarebit with some Black Sheep ale! Service excellent and the hotel is a perfect place to stay!

From the moment we drove into Helmsley town square we were happy, seeing The Black Swan ahead, picturesque right by the churchyard. A gorgeous market town and hotel! We had a perfect room overlooking the square. Dined in the restaurant and we were suitably impressed with the food, service and the cheeseboard. Trout, Seabass and the cheese for me all professionally served by a very friendly team, they made my 7 yr old very welcome indeed. The BaaBaa beer was great in the bar and the hotel recommended some excellent local walks to work it all off. A highly recommended 2 day break. Oh and if you have a dog then this place will make the beast and you very happy. Treats galore, bowls and blankets in the room!

Last stayed here about 15 years ago and it was nice to get back to this beautiful part of the world. Helmsley is a pretty little market town and the Black Swan is an ancient pub that overlooks the main square. It now has a lot more rooms than before and we stayed in one of the more modern ones overlooking the pretty garden. The restaurant is excellent with great service, good food, plenty of space and a good wine list. They also have a new tearoom which wasn’t there before.

A wonderful place to stay or to eat. Their little Bistro which is the tea room during the day is particularly good. (But it isn't open every day at night.) Best steak and great chips I've had in ages. Well worth a visit.
As a place to stay its expensive but luxurious. Staff are fantastic. You can eat there if you are a non resident.
