Julian , the chef/patron at Bridge Street has to be one of the best chefs in the Lakes. We have dined at this restaurant several times since it opened and have never been even slightly disappointed with any aspect of the experience. The welcome is warm and unfussy with a comfortable bar in which to relax and enjoy a drink and some nibbles whilst checking the menu.A mouthwatering wine list without the jaw-dropping markups is also very welcome, allowing one to choose better wines to truly complement the food. The food is described in Julian's refreshingly straightforward style and seems to find itself in that minefield which is "Modern British". Thankfully it delivers its full promise and is a testament to the quality of locally sourced ingredients and the obvious flair in the kitchen. The service is flawless; unhurried and efficient but very friendly. The dishes are perfectly presented but without the pretension of many more expensive establishments.Food is what we are here for and Bridge Street delivers in spades.Meat is succulent and cooked with passion to bring out the best of its flavours. The sauces are rich reductions which lift the whole dish whilst introducing new tastes and textures.Vegetables are cooked with an attention to their character and not contrived into a parody of themselves. The fish is fresh and well cooked to bring out it's full flavour and even for a confirmed omnivore like me,the vegetarian dishes are a sore temptation to which I have once yielded.Desserts are an essential part of the Bridge Street experience as they are made with love. This is obvious by the care which is given to the dish, the presentation, the elements and the saucing of the whole thing.A small taste of heaven and well worth adding a glass of dessert wine to fully appreciate the flavours.Bridge Street will soon have a table full of awards if there is any justice so I can only say book now while you can afford it.

By far the best restaurant in Kendal. The food, service and atmosphere are all just right. The menu is well balanced and thought out, something for everybody. It is very reasonably priced for the quality of food and service you get.
Do go and try it for yourself,I don't think you will be disappointed.

We arrived in Kendal around 8.00 pm on a wet and windy September night. We were hoping to find somewhere a bit different from the normal town centre eating establishments and we found it in the Bridge House Restaurant. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. There were little touches that you only find in very expensive restaurants. I loved the fresh roses on every table and the homemade petit fours with the coffee. The restaurant was quiet that Wednesday night which is why we managed to secure a table without booking. My advice is to book well in advance if you wish to experience this delightful place. I can't wait to go again.
