We visited chez Giovanni on Valentine's night. The owners had done some tasteful decoration the music the atmosphere and best of all the food was wonderful. My wife chose the sirloin steak, and I had the Lamb shank, both of which were cooked to perfection, making a perfect start to the evening. We will certainly be going back again, and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

UNBEATABLE, FABULOUS, OUTSTANDING !!! I just spotted the previous review on this site and agree with everything stated. This venue has consistently the best food you could wish for. QUALITY, QUALITY QUALITY. Oh , and by the way, they have just won BEST ITALIIAN RESTAURANT IN GWENT FOR THE SEVENTH YEAR IN A ROW....A formidable achievement. I also spotted a " FOUR STAR " ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH AWARD on their front window....very reassuring. How many stars has your usual restaurant got I wonder. I found a huge shock when i explored foodratings.gov.uk some so called top newport restaurants achieved very poor ratings

Definitely a place to be avoided. Five of us went on a recent Saturday night and waited an hour and a half to get food. The price level is way above the quality and ambiance of the place. Worst of all, when we commented on the slow service, we were told that everyone else was happy with everything. This was obviously not true from observing others eating. I am beginning to believe that there is vote rigging going on with a local publication which gives local restaurants awards. Many people I have talked to share my view that this is a very poor restaurant, living on past glories.

Dee must have gone to a completely different place than us. The garlic bread (1 tiny slice per portion) was burnt, the chips were like cardboard and the steaks only ok. We were the only customers in there, although a couple more arrived before we had finished. The owner took great pleasure in running down the local competition - not very professional and not very wise. We hadn't been in the restaurant for a number of years and doubt we will ever be returning. We certainly don't mind paying for good food, but there are restaurants in Newport where the food is much nicer and value for money better even if the overall price is higher (although even that is not always the case). Time to breathe new life into the decor and to boost your own reputation with excellent food and presentation rather than running down the competition. ciao.

Chez Giovanni is undoubtedly THE BEST for miles around. They have been voted the favourite restaurant of the Newport, Gwent area for THREE YEARS ON THE TROT. Absolutely delicious food, friendly efficient service and delightful surroundings. I urge anyone who appreciates the very best food to dine there. "ITS MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT BY FAR "
