Stunning venue in every sense. Location, building, food and accommodation. A Yorkshire jewel!

Where to go on a rainy Bank Holiday weekend? On the basis that it was monsoon rain forecast for Lancashire we made a rare foray across the Pennines to Rudding Park near Harrogate. The in-laws had been earlier in the week and were singing its praises so we booked the day before and headed off on Bank Holiday Sunday. It’s a beautiful and imposing building set in a large estate and unsurprisingly is very popular for weddings. It’s also home to a couple of golf courses and attracts a lot of golf parties. The room was lovely – modern, spacious, underfloor heating in the bathroom with separate shower and rolltop bath. We snacked at lunchtime in the modern bar area then had the full a la carte evening meal in the Clocktower Restaurant. Excellent service (with many French staff), beautiful food and a well-lit room (naff restaurant lighting is one of my wife’s bugbears). You can mix and match between the set and a la carte menus and highlights included the woodpigeon kiev for starters, venison cutlet for the main and a steamed pud for dessert – plus a Yorkshire cheeseboard. A good choice of wines too. Breakfast next day in the conservatory area was nice too with views out over the grounds. They have a spa area currently but a new one is planned with a pool etc which will only add to the appeal. We’ll be back to check it out!

Heard about this fantastic hotel from friends who go as regularly as possible and have wanted to try it out for some time now so last weekend we drove out to Rudding Park. It is a beautiful hotel in truly stunning surroundings. We had lunch at the clocktower restaurant and it was one of the best dining experiences we have had. Sitting around an ancient olive tree in a light and airy space set the mood for a relaxed luncheon. The food was exquisite and you could tell so much attention to detail in every aspect of the cooking. Service was impeccable, attentive without being over the top. It was a real treat for us but we thoroughly enjoyed every minute. We will definitely be going back as soon as possible, probably for the next special occasion.

Stopped in here for a drink, such a warm welcome even though we were not eating. My wife had a glass of champagne and a beer for me, sat out on a terrace, perfect. We will be back and definitely will be eating next time!!

Visted Thursday 4th February, early evening. This has to be my favourite restaurant at the moment. We have stayed at Rudding Park quite a lot and always enjoyed the lovely breakfasts there, but did not start using The Clocktower on an evening for some strange reason at first....silly us! This place is one of the best restaurants ever. The standard of everything is exceptionally high, and at a very affordable price. We chose to select our wonderful food from the local produce menu. Price at time of typing is three wonderful courses for £20.10. Bargain! We had drinks and nibbles in the lovely large bar area, then we were led through to the sort of table we prefer to sit at, when you can be next to each other, not opposite each other. We were then given bread with both oil and butter, both sorts of bread were lovely and i am sure will be home baked. My starter was a crab and sea food sort of thing, it was lovely and fresh and as ever presented in a great way. Husbands starter was a game terrine with fruit bread, he loved it. Mains were a great big pork chop with crackling with various vegetables to compliment it. I had the chicken served on a bed of mash and red cabbage. Both were cooked perfectly and yet again presented in a lovely but not over the top way that some restaurants do. Desserts, oh wow just so good. Rhubarb crumble with creme anglaise (custard!) Cant remember what my husband had now, but I know he wanted more! They tend to use as much locally sourced produce as possible. We had a bottle of Pinot Grigio, and also a large bottle of water. We chose to have our coffees and little chocs/fudge (home made)etc back in the bar area. Bill came to £75 which included the drinks at the bar. You are left to tip as you wish, which always shows a good place in my opinion. This is a very classy place, very clean and tidy throughout. High quality cutlery, glasses and linen.. I have to mention how impressed we both are by the staff at this place, and actually the whole hotel. It has been voted number 6 in the world I believe. The staff are friendly, have a great knowledge of the menu and are a delight to converse with. Thet are all lovely, but I will have to single Tomas out as a particular nice helpful young gentleman. I strongly would recommend anyone to try this place if you have never been before. It will become a firm favourite I am sure. Enjoy!

Have experienced today possibly the worst meal I have had this year. As a regular visitor to Rudding the service and quality of food today left a lot to be desired. The parsnip soup starter was average, then I was brought a roast beef dinner even though I had ordered a cauliflower and blue cheese charlotte with root vegetables. The staff disappeared and 5 mins later brought the most disgusting mush of cauliflower in a fried bread tower with an oily stack of potatoes. needless to say it was sent back and i waited for cheese and biscuits. We didn't pay for this meal, the staff were stressed and some were not qualified to work in a restaurant of this nature. Not the usual standard and I hope the kitchen and management get their act together ASAP!

I agree with comments of your previous readers. What a delightful atmosphere to enjoy good food and attentive service. I think one would need to get there early to eat in the conservatory. Prices are a bit above average but with a high-life 2-4-1 card it's a bargain.

Midweek lunch. I thought that it would be quiet but it was 75% full. Mainly Harrogate women who lunch. Four of them on the table nearest to us spent the entire meal trying to 'out brag' each other. Hyacinth Bouquet medals all round! The food, service and surroundings are first class. Using our 2-4-1 High life card made it even better. Give it a try...you won't be disappointed.

Very impressive!!!! The food and the service was simply first class.
