About The Dog Inn

At the heart of Belthorn, The Dog Inn is no ordinary local. Believed to date back several hundred years, it was rescued from closure in 2015 by villagers who came together to save their only remaining pub, making it Lancashire’s first community-owned freehouse. Inside, there’s a traditional bar atmosphere, local ales and a restaurant serving hearty, home-cooked dishes built around seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, alongside well-supported Sunday roasts and changing specials. Beyond the food and drink, the pub remains a genuine village hub, complete with coffee shop, community events and far-reaching countryside views that stretch towards Darwen Tower and beyond on a clear day. With footpaths and moorland walks from the doorstep, it’s as much a destination for walkers and dog owners as it is for locals gathering over a pint.

Absolutely love this place. Wonderful, friendly atmosphere that feels welcoming and familiar. Food is good value and never had a meal I wasn’t happy with. It’s now become our regular whether it’s a budget friendly mid week treat or a weekend occasion. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough

Some pubs provide nice food but this pub produces some amazing food and restaurant views that take your breath away. The staff go the extra mile to ensure your visit is memorable and welcoming. What a little gem hidden away in a lovely little village Belthorn.

Lovely sunday roast, first time here and wont be the last. Beef cooked to perfection as was all the accompanying veg and yorkshire pudding. Dessert of apple crumple was also fabulous. Staff are so accommodating and very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Sunday roast menu was good,portions are a good size and roast beef was excellent. Good value for food we had .service good and food timely and hot .came back a second time due to being so good. Menu and food has improved.Desserts we were disappointed with as no traditional ones to chose from and not any on list us as a party of three would have chosen.

My first visit since it became a community pub. All staff were excellent. The 2 severs were attentive but not overly so. Both had a superb manner. A rarity these days. Can't praise them highly enough. There was a slight delay due to an issue in the kitchen but we didn't even notice it. However, we were offered a free desert and drink because of the delay. That was extremely generous. All thecfood was excellent. I would prefer more meringue and less cream in the Eton Mess but that is merely personal choice. I would highly recommend the Dog Inn and have done so. Will definitely return. A big congratulations to all concerned.

Had a great meal at the Dog Inn, excellent staff and service . Wife went for fish and chips and was a perfect portion and everything cooked to perfection . I went for the Beef Tacos from the special menu and they were awesome, really well cooked and tasty. Would also definitley recommend the chicken wings on the starters menu but starter and main require a big appetite..... love the vibe in this pub and background music creates a really good atmosphere will definitley be back.

Delicious food as always and lovely service. One issue. We weren’t aware of a 10% service charge automatically added to bill.

Enjoyed meals here on several occasions with friends where service and value for money have always been great. Most recently enjoyed a meal with family and grandchildren. All enjoyed meals and conversation with staff. Kids also met the pub cat which was very welcoming.
