Went to Espanol in Poulton last night for the first time since they had the refurb. It’s on two floors now with a new bar area downstairs and an expanded kitchen. The menu’s great for sharing so we had a few tapas dishes before a lively rabbit paella and washed it all down with a nice bottle of Ribera del Duero.
We eat out at least once a week. We ate here a couple of days ago and it was simply the best food that I have eaten in a restaurant for a long long time. Fantastic!
Never easy getting a table here at weekends which I guess is the sign of a good restaurant. The place has a really warm and welcoming buzz to it which is partly down to the simple, rustic decor and plenty down to Moses, the friendly Spanish owner who handles front-of-house. There’s paella, of course, plus a rib of beef that comes sliced on a wooden board which is to die for. Lots of other dishes to work your way through both from the main menu and the specials board.
Mmmmm the food on a whole was ok but the service and the wait was unacceptable. Very dissatisfied and the livers were over cooked. Not a good experience.

We went last night after hearing good reviews from friends and it was excellent! Food was delicious and the forerib of beef was amazing. Had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and the Spanish waiter and English waitress were most friendly and engaging. Will definitely be a regular visitor from now on!
We booked for my birthday having never been before. Atmosphere was excellent, food and wine were excellent, service was slightly bolshy but amusing and showed a real passion for what we were about to receive and our overall thoughts were that we are looking forward to a return to Espanol to try more dishes!
We enjoyed a lovely meal here having a selection of tapas all really Tasty. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go again.
we bkd ths restaurant over 4weeks ago for a birthday, we have people traveling frm manchester for ths and have been looking forward to it.the nite b4 we are due to go a mesage is left on our phone to say there was a mistake and they could nt seat us until 1hour 30mins later than the time we bkd. after caling bk several times and leaving several msgs for them, they stil havent botherd to ring back. as u can imagine we are extremely disappointd and angry ,and nw hav been left tryin to find a table elsewhere for a birthday celebration tonight. i have never experienced such shoddy customer service and certainly wil be telling al my friends nt to bother going there
i retract my last statement,i have since had a conversation with the owner and been informed the head waiter made a mistake and our table is fine.so stil a cux service issue,bt nt with the owners.
We booked a table at Espanol for a Christmas get together with some friends last week but we were very disappointed with the service. Our table had been booked for two months but when we arrived we were told, without any apology, that we would have to wait at least 30 mins to be seated. We were asked to leave a number and 'go to the pub for a drink' and they would ring when our table was ready. After 40 mins we still hadn't heard anything so we went back to see what was happening. After another 10 mins of waiting in a cramped corner of the restaurant we were finally seated - still with no apology for the inconvenience. The waiter then came over and said we would have to make do with only one menu between seven of us - still with no apology! So we decided to just leave. Some people seem to have had a really positive experience here but I am sorry to say that I have never experienced such a poor level of service and downright rudeness from a restaurant and I won't be going again.
