About Farmers Arms

The Farmers Arms at Lowick Green, near Ulverston, was rescued by Grizedale Arts and the local community during the height of the Covid epidemic. Today it’s once again a thriving country inn as well as a rural hub serving the needs of both locals and visitors. There’s a café and a bar, shop and workshop, events and exhibitions plus accommodation if you fancy staying over and exploring this tranquil corner of the Lake District. The Stable Bar is the oldest part of the inn and has been restored to its former glory with an open fire and eclectic furnishings. The seasonal menu uses the best of what the Crake Valley has to offer with all produce ethically sourced. The Café is open for lunch, coffee or just a snack. Functions and private parties are welcome with a separate dining room available for private dining. The Farmers Arms also has a pretty beer garden and six acres of surrounding fields.

A really great experience dining at the Farmer Arms last Saturday evening. The food (curry night) was delicious and the service friendly and efficicient. We were a large party including cildren and everyone had a really good time.

Pizzas were delicious but had to wait ages ! Would have been happy if someone had just said - sorry we’re busy and there’s going to be a wait when we ordered. It’s a great place and would like to support but needs to get better at the organisation and planning .

I really want to support a community pub but this was chaotic. We arrived at the correct booked time to be told "we don't take bookings." We were extremely lucky that a table for 5 was available, ten minutes later and we would have been out. The pizzas were good but service a bit slow. We ordered dessert but none arrived. We wanted coffee but were told, "coffee finishes at 6pm!" After waiting some time without dessert we went to pay and were told the chef had walked out, although it was not clear when. The whole management of the pub and food was disorganised although it was clear that the staff were working their socks off. They need some system and back up to make this work.

Another delicious Sunday lunch - venison and all the sunday roast accompaniments followed by their amazing Basque cheesecake. This is the place we always choose when guests visit us. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

We had a lovely family Sunday lunch in this unique pub run by Grizedale Arts. The locally sourced, home cooked food was enjoyed by all of us. We all agreed that the mix of original 16/17th century features combined with contemporary handmade furniture and artefacts works together well to create a very engaging interior. The staff are friendly and relaxed. Highly recommended.
