The Fat Loaf has been at the heart of the local dining scene in Ashton-on Mersey, near Sale, for many a year. The classy neighbourhood restaurant has built up a great reputation for its modern European cooking based on local and seasonal produce with suppliers name-checked on the menu. It’s also very reasonably priced. Chef-patron Tim Wood has a wealth of experience in Michelin-starred kitchens and he and his team work from an open kitchen. The restaurant seats about 50 and in summer the bi-folding windows are opened up for al fresco dining. In addition to the main menu, there’s a great-value Lunch/Early Dinner menu and on Tuesdays you can bring your own wine with no corkage charge. The Fat Loaf is open for lunch and coffee Wednesday to Friday and for dinner from 5.30pm until late Tuesday to Saturday.
