About Food For Cowboys

Food For Cowboys have opened a new flagship restaurant on Hull’s Alfred Gelder Street to complement their Bond Street taqueria. There’s a warm and intimate upstairs dining room and a lively downstairs kitchen serving a range of Mexican small plates and tacos from brunch to supper. This is authentic Mexican street food with cheeses and sour cream prepared in-house, meat slow-cooked and chillis and spices imported direct from Mexico. Takeaway is available too with delivery right across Hull.

The best tapas style food I’ve had in a long while.

Been twice now, first time downstairs and last night we were upstairs, amazing food both times. I love the atmosphere and the tacos and small plates are divine, birria tacos were our favourite!!! Service and drinks we’re great by everyone and I’m counting down the days until I can go again!

Absolutely love Food for Cowboys! Have enjoyed the tacos a few times in the next door pub but was even more pleased dining in the restaurant. I’m Puerto Rican, moved over from the states, and find it really hard to find Hispanic food that has genuine flavours in the UK, especially Hull. Food for Cowboys has not disappointed. The atmosphere is great, the Latin music is a nice touch, and I love how involved (I’m assuming) the owner and face of the restaurant is. I asked for no beans and he came to the table to ask if I wanted salsa to bring flavour back to the dish. Will definitely be coming back.

This was my second visit to food for cowboys, my partner's third. We enjoyed trying some new dishes on the specials this time, the duck and pineapple salsa taco was delicious and my partner enjoyed the queso chorizo fondu. Cocktails were also delicious, we tried the special desert cocktail 'shake' made with the homemade orxata which was the perfect way to round off the meal

Food was delicious, staff were very friendly and helpful. Only negative was that ‘intimate low lit’ meant it was actually dark. Going there again soon though.

This was my second time going. First time I went with my partner, but this time I took a client here for work, so there were x5 of us and it was perfect! Not too posh you can't relax, not too relaxed it doesnt' feel like a treat - the food was divine - they pork and beef tacos and the corn and cornbread are my highlights, but the whitebait and dips were yummy too... everything in fact. Everyone loved the food. It's a cute little spot. Staff very friendly..they were a bit run off their feet but were very apologetic it wasn't an issue and they were very smiley. Highly recommend it!

The food here is very very good, as is the service. Having eaten here once, we now know to stagger the food orders to make the evening last a bit longer! The spicy Margaritas are some of the best I’ve ever sipped, but at £11 a little spenny. The wine list is also ££ with a £25 bottle of wine described as Asda smart price. However, I absolutely recommend here for a meal, it’s a cracking venue, lovely staff, mint food and lush margs.
