About Gio Ristorante

Centrally positioned on Lower Mosley Street, opposite the Midland Hotel and close to all the nightlife and cultural centres in Manchester, including the Bridgwater Hall and Manchester Central, Gio is the younger sister to the long-established Giorgios on Portland Street. The interior of the 65-cover restaurant blends contemporary furnishings and smartly laid tables with softer traditional Italian touches like the art on the walls and high shelves with wine and vinegar bottles, soft lighting and a stone floor. A popular choice for business lunches, a break from shopping and pre-theatre, Gios menu offers authentic Italian cuisine both a la carte and on specially priced set menus. Expect a good range of handmade Neapolitan-style pizzas, freshly cooked pastas and risottos as well as a large choice of favourites like the many steaks, veal and fresh fish dishes. Enjoy starters such as Gamberoni All Aglio, king prawns sauteed in garlic, white wine and lemon, mains like Calves liver lightly sauteed with caramalised onions and gravy, served with mashed potatoes, mushrooms and garden peas or Whole fresh sea bass, filleted and served on a bed of fresh julienne veg and classic desserts like their homemade Tiramisu. A well-chosen wine list mixes Italian classics with a selection from the New World. Larger parties are welcome and there are incentives for party organisers.

I always go to Gio’s pre concert with friends. Service is excellent and rapid. Waiters are all friendly and helpful. The food quality is always superb. The venue is warm welcoming and friendly. It is easy to book online. It is an excellent venue for the Bridgewater and is always full. The prices are good and good variety on the menu

We arrived in good time, the place was completely packed no empty tables. I gave my name and we were shown to the bar to wait. More people were coming in who had also prebooked a table, it was quite crampted, A couple came in gave there name, and the waiter came to us and said i felt accusingly that their name was Wood the same as ours, as if i was lying about our reservation, how would i know someone elses booking. A table came available, i asked if it was for us, he said no, i reminded him that our booking was for 6pm, which we were past, we got the table. We would have been better going to pizza hut, the food was not that good, it was expensive i will not be going back.

It was OK. Pre Theatre menu. Looks reasonable but with a couple of sides, drinks and one dessert soon racked up to £85 which wasn’t quite so reasonable for a pasta meal. The 10% service charge is not acceptable. The service was ok so I didn’t feel like I should challenge it, and I would have tipped, but feel it is cheeky ! We went there because we thought it would be cheaper than San Carlo. I wish I paid the few pounds extra for better food and experience!
