We have been visiting the Go Down for many years, the food and service is always excellent and probably the only restaurant my husband will go to in York. It was so good that we got married 3 years ago today (9th February) and asked Peter and Penelope if they would 'do' our wedding reception. We had a wonderful meal for 30 guests and they still talk about it now. Can't get better than that. Unfortunately cannot go tonight to celebrate but will be back there next week for my birthday.

We have been regularly visiting the Go-Down for a number of years. The food and service has been consistently good throughout that time beginning with its welcoming loaf of warm bread .
Portions (unless you opt for the early bird menu are daunting. Even going for the early bird it is a struggle to accommodate all three courses.
It would be hard to find better quality and value for money.

Spent our 20th wedding anniversary in York and wanted somewhere intimate to eat. the restaurant is cosy and probably a little old fashioned but the food at the Go down was superb, the home made soup with a huge slap of home made bread was so filling we hardly had room left for the main course. the restaurant is run by a husband and wife team who are very friendly i would definitely return again.
