About Grants Of Castlegate

Grants of Castlegate in Penrith is a modern British bistro and wine bar with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It’s housed in a characterful Victorian building with a small, sheltered garden to the rear. Chef-patron Stephen Tierney has worked in hotels and restaurants in Scotland, London, Miami, Alaska and Australia and he draws on that experience to produce carefully cooked dishes based around the best local ingredients. The menu is vegetarian friendly with vegan option too and as well as fine wines and local beers there is a large selection of spirits and liqueurs, including single malts. Grants of Castlegate is open for dinner Wednesday to Sunday and lunch at weekends along with a Bottomless Prosecco Afternoon Tea on selected weekends. They also have a furnished holiday let available if you wish to base yourself in Penrith and explore the local area.

We had a News Years Eve meal, I’ve got say the Food was exceptional, the Fillet Steak was cooked to perfection for us we asked for medium rare with a slightly charcoal finish and it was perfect, also the service and staff were so friendly and helpful!!! Would definitely Highly Recommend it, and not miss ever going there then next time staying in Penrith !! BRILLIANT!!!

Excellent restaurant. One of our local favourites. Never had a bad meal in all the times we have been there. Like to try all the different dishes which are superb. Owners are really nice and the service is excellent.

Equally as good as the last time we had been. I would highly recommend grants to anyone, meal sizes are a little on the smaller size, but your paying for quality and you can top portions up with the nice sides they have to offer. I personally had 3 courses and a side with the main, I wasn’t overly stuffed afterwards so the balance is spot on! The menu is also not over cluttered and I would of been happy with pretty much every option!

A return visit to Penrith last week and we again picked Grant's for our evening meal. Lovely food on a small and select menu. We weren't disappointed in our choices and the wines were also exceptionally good. The restaurant is really worth stopping at if you're passing through the area.
