About Harbour Lights

Harbour Lights is the second-oldest pub in South Shields, dating back to 1834 and was previously known as the Crown Inn. It’s got great views out over the mouth of the River Tyne and North Shields Fish Quay and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. They also do a very popular Sunday Roast. Recently refurbished, the pub has a bar and a conservatory area with a contemporary feel as well as an enclosed beer garden when the weather permits. And the eye-catching exterior boasts gold signage and large black window frames.

We always visit the Harbour Lights when passing through South Shields. The food is excellent with very generous portions. The staff are friendly and efficient. We always book as it is deservedly very popular.

What a lovely warm welcome from staff and from the cosy wood burner! Lovely cooked breakfast with coffee, toast and marmalade! Lots on the menu for breakfast, lunch or evening meals. Well presented. Great prices. Highly recommended!

We’d booked for 1.30pm and just as well as when we left it was full. Service was quick and friendly. Nice to see the new 1,2,3 course menu. We chose the chicken and mince main meals as we’d not tried them before, (fish dishes did look tempting though). Good choices made.

Fabulous Sunday roast and reasonably priced. Belly pork was delicious with crispy cracking and all the veg was cooked just right. The crumble and custard were also amazing we thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. I asked for a small portion which they were more than happy to do. Lots of places won’t do this or only offer it on chicken.

After visiting Sunday for lunch with my wife and daughter I can honestly say the food is excellent the staff are excellent, there was no beef rump left so I opted for the feather blade braised beef my wife the turkey and my daughter ham All excellent with homemade Yorkshire, veg, Cauliflower cheese and also mushy peas ( yummy) And very reasonably priced, next time I take my daughter back up to Newcastle Uni will be calling again

Four of us were at the Harbour Lights last Thursday. Two ordered the salmon and 2 ordered the king prawn flat bread starter as a main with home cooked chips. Both meals were delicious and although the king prawn flat bread was actually a starter there was loads to eat. (4 king prawns but that’s acceptable for a starter. We were booked in for 17:15 and it became very busy, it had a good atmosphere and the service was very quick I would definitely recommend

A lovely warm welcome from very friendly, smiley staff! A fire was roaring which made a very cosy pub. Full English breakfast x 4 was greatly received and empty plates and full stomachs confirmed the food was excellent! I’d certainly recommend a visit… for breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks!

Whilst visiting family in the area and staying in a local hotel after travelling from Norfolk we visited the Harbour Lights for a second time after a very positive experience in September, and it didn't disappoint, the food was excellent, there was a good menu choice, and the service was excellent. The staff were friendly and welcoming a great experience we will be visiting again.
