About Horse and Farrier

Situated in the picturesque village of Dacre, just a couple of miles north of Pooley Bridge and the head of Ullswater, the Horse and Farrier is a freehold pub dating back to the eighteenth century. The views from the cosy restaurant are spectacular and in winter there’s a roaring log burner to keep you warm. Dogs are welcome in the bar area and also in the beer garden which is a real suntrap during the summer months. The kitchen only uses local produce whether you’re looking for a sandwich, light bite or a three-course meal and the ales and lagers are local too, changing on a regular basis. The Horse and Farrier also has a self-catered apartment for two above the pub which is bookable through Air B&B for a minimum two-night stay.

Very enjoyable evening. Busy restaurant with splendid views. Lovely soufflé starter and lamb harissa to follow. Menu is not a standard one; there wasn’t too much meat from which to choose. Only disappointment was a lack of zero alcohol gin.

Excellent service with friendly service in a lovely environment. Good particularly good, perhaps a slightly larger menu.

Having visited this pub a number of times this year we continue to be very impressed with the efficiency of the staff and the standard of the food. It really is a gem and whoever recruits and trains the staff deserves a medal. Very highly recommended.

Had an absolutely delicious evening meal. Lovely atmosphere and friendly but never intrusive service. The dishes were expertly crafted and beautifully presented. My husband had the steak whilst I had a vegetarian pasta dish which was fantastically tasty. I really appreciated the option to have a smaller portion as it left room for the dessert! We loved it and felt it was well priced and justly highly regarded.

booked for Sunday lunch during a week away. Staff fantastic, very welcoming and professional . The meal was great every thing well seasoned the beef was the best I’ve tasted in a long time, slight down side the roast potatoes could of been better, but we did book for 4 pm so lucky to get roast beef. Highly recomend.

Been eating here for years, always been good food but over the last couple of years has improved still further. The Sunday lunch is legendary, but to be honest some of the week night specials are exceptional too. It can get busy, especially on Sundays! Reservation recommended to avoid disappointment.

Amazing service and lovely food - it’s a great menu and the food is so fresh and well prepared. Brilliant setting and just a fabulous place to eat.
Gail
A lovely meal in an idyllic village pub with great service .one minor issue, just one small slice of halloumi was a bit tight on the vegetarian dish which tasted lovely.
