About Horse and Farrier

Situated in the picturesque village of Dacre, just a couple of miles north of Pooley Bridge and the head of Ullswater, the Horse and Farrier is a freehold pub dating back to the eighteenth century. The views from the cosy restaurant are spectacular and in winter there’s a roaring log burner to keep you warm. Dogs are welcome in the bar area and also in the beer garden which is a real suntrap during the summer months. The kitchen only uses local produce whether you’re looking for a sandwich, light bite or a three-course meal and the ales and lagers are local too, changing on a regular basis. The Horse and Farrier also has a self-catered apartment for two above the pub which is bookable through Air B&B for a minimum two-night stay.

My wife and I were celebrating our Ruby Wedding Anniversary so it was a really important day for us. We were so glad a friend had recommended The Horse and Farrier. The Sunday Lunch was delicious. The roast beef and all the trimmings were cooked perfectly. The staff were friendly but efficient and the overall experience was excellent. Thank you.

Always good quality food served up by a great team. We always find the food is of a consistent high quality and The Horse & Farrier is our go to good food pub. We went for Sunday Roast this time after a decent walk around Clough Head. It didn’t disappoint and we just managed to squeeze in a delicious pud to share after our Roast Rump of Beef Roast.

Food a little disappointing. Fries that accompanied the boar burger over done and hard and a minute garnish and micro pot of slaw were very mean. Service from some of the staff a little curt and perfunctory. Surroundings as always very comfortable although no hand towels in the toilets.

Came on a Friday evening 3 ladies away for a couple of nights.. the horse and farrier is a stunning building, staff and locals super friendly and helpful. Food although slightly more expensive than you might normally get for a pub, the food was worth every penny. Left stuff and satisfied.

We came here for a Sunday roast on our way back from a lovely weekend at the lakes. Having been here before we were delighted when they fitted us in last minute. However we felt the food wasn't quite as good as our previous visit in march. We had a roast beef Sunday roast and felt the roast potatoes were hard and the beef was very chewy. The service and general atmosphere was very good.
