About Hotel Du Vin and Bistro

Located in the heart of the newly rejuvenated city centre and close to Bristol's famous waterfront, Hotel du Vin Bristol is a magnificently restored sugar house, dating from the 1700s. Decorated in classic Hotel du Vin style, the building has been sensitively converted into a stylish and contemporary luxury boutique hotel with 40 bedrooms, including 3 double-height suites and a bedroom roof terrace. The hotel also boasts four quirky and inspiring meeting spaces and two bars as well as the award-winning trademark wine cellar and French-style bistro serving modern European cuisine with great emphasis on locally sourced produce. The bistro is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week.

I had an extremely poor experience during my stay at this hotel on May 24, 2011. In the morning there was a power outage and I was trapped in the lift. The lift's emergency lights were not working and the alarms did not function. Luckily I had a weak signal on my mobile and I called the reception to appraise them of my situation. Yet it took them 30 minutes to rescue me from the lift. The hotel is located in an old building, and hence very dark during such incidents. You have to find your way out on your own as there is no emergency lights or exists marked. when I complained to the hotel manger, she was least interested in the harrowing experience that I had. On the contrary, she was trying to prove me and my claims wrong! I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Haven't been for a while - my friend and I called in for a last drink or 2 on a Saturday evening. We had a very warm welcome and enjoyed some fab wine in the lovely rustic charm of the bar area. Ended up wishing we'd eaten there too. So we'll be back there soon!

For that special occasion, HduV cannot be beaten. As a qualified French gourmet chef, this is what I was taught to cook - and here they do in very, very well - in traditional Victoriana surroundings. Impeccable silver service and how nice to see properly trained waiters crumbing-down between courses!! Just remember to pay the mortgage BEFORE you eat here - it 'aint cheep!!
