Oure recent dinner at IGGS began in a very promising way, with excellent fish soup, with just the right balance. The tuna tartare was also fine, though served too warm, and with a strange addition of goat's cheese. Then things went downhill in a hurry, with a gloppy and over cooked clam and mushroom risotto the low point. The service was excellent, though the waitress was expected to cover the entire restaurant by herself, and was clearly stressed. The wine list is fine, but like the food, significantly overpriced. We went in really wanting to like this one, and make it a regular dining spot, but we will not return.

Dined alone in Iggs for lunch- always unnerving dining alone, but was made to feel very relaxed and welcome from the offset. Loved the fishcake starter: nice to find a restaurant which treats the fishcake as a proper dish- not just using up the off-cuts! Ribeye steak cooked to absolute perfection (and exactly as I described), with a wonderfully intense sauce complementing it perfectly. House wine (not a Rioja... a nice change for a Spanish Restaurant) extremely good quality and very drinkable. Will be back.

What a delight! We stumbled across this little treasure on the lookout for good seafood which seems to be impossible to find in Edinburgh. Iggs made up for it with unpretentious style and service matched only by their wonderful food. Their position opposite a small unassuming cafe called 'Tasty Tatties' helps the restaurant sit happily in its surroundings. The decor is chintz, cracked paint, flaky wallpaper (if you look closely) yet this is simply wear and tear and not because the place lacks a heart or a caring hand. Their outstanding selection of good wines is a testament to the beating pulse and serves all occasions. Oysters as a starter and the most wonderful Aberdeen Angus which did Edinburgh and the surrounding regions proud. The 'in between' vegetable refresher course of braised fennel and tomato may not be to everyone's taste yet it serves well for two reasons; to gauge the chef's reaction to a possible new addition to the menu and chiefly as a clear indicator that you are not going to be hurried out of the door. One downfall noted was that the chef obviously does not eat tuna. Tuna was my partner's main which was not flashed in the pan but instead had been hit by lightning. When Iggs gets it wrong, they get it wrong and replace immediately like any good establishment should. However, when Iggs gets it right, they get it right, as with the Angus, the wine, the service and the superb desserts all worthy of framing and their own pride of place in London's Tate Modern. Free Ponteau (pronounced pont-ey-oh as explained by our lovely waitress), a sort of Spanish orange brandy to make up for the mistake with the main. There was also another free drink somewhere but it's all becoming a blur. All in all, unhurried, unpretentious, intimate and a place you can trust. I imagine if you asked them, Iggs would not know entirely just what they have got right and I'm not sure I would know either but suffice to say, why question a good thing? Well worth a visit. Go, go, go!

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Iggs last Saturday night. They have a different way of serving the vegetables - they serve you with an intermediate vegetable course between the starter and main course. My partner loved this but I wasn't too happy with it. I was served with braised fennel which I hate. Surely in a place like this you don't want to be surprised after your starter with a course that potentially you do not like? Other than that though the meal was fantastic. I had the sea bass and my wife had a pork dish that I cannot remember the name of which she thought was amazing. The service was fantastic. The maitre'd explained items on the menu with a real passion. The waiting staff were all very attentive whilst not too obtrusive. I would definitely recommend Iggs to anyone and I will definitely be going back soon.
