On a Thursday night in the centre of Sutton, there doesn't appear to be many choices. Jimmy Spices seemed like the a good option, and gave me a chance to compare it against the Birmingham City Centre branch. The basic idea is exactly the same, but it's improved somewhat from the original in Brum. It's a large room, certainly not for an intimate night out, it's noisy (just over half full I think), but some care has been taken with the layout, with apparently, areas for larger parties located at the opposite end of the room, so even with one or two large groups in the restaurant, those in smaller groups/couples could sit away from them - a thoughtful touch. There are 3/4 large kitchen stations, and plenty options for freshly cooked items, including a chinese style stir fry, dosas, pasta and kebabs. The range of food is larger than I remember, a good selection, and most of was pretty good considering it was a buffet, most of seemed freshly cooked. Another thoughtful touch was a selection of plainer foods suitable for kids, such as roast chicken, chips and fish fingers. There were plenty of veggie and healthy options too. I was certainly happy with the food I had, some highlights were some lovely fresh spinach pakora and a very nice mushroom and pea curry. My partner tried out the stir fry station and was very happy with the results. Desserts were the usual suspects of cakes (with a particularly nice orange cake), indian desserts, a cranberry mousse, fresh fruit and a Mr Whippy machine. Service was fine, efficient and fast. The way the food stations are spread out leaves plenty of space to move around, and you don't feel like your fighting to get at the food. Both of us were driving, so we had a couple of non-alchoholic cocktails (nice to have some other choices) - although a pina-colada without the rum is just not the same! The bill came to £35 - great value for money. Over all, I'd recommend it over the Birmingham City Branch, even when it gets busy, it would still be workable and wouldn't feel cramped.
