We went to this pub for a bar meal in the week and it is placed in the most beautiful setting. Although waiting approx 30 mins for our starter, when it came we were nicely surprised it was very good and all fresh produce, unfortunately we had to wait a further 30 minutes for a main course which was not as successful as the starter. However, it is obvious the chef has a talent but more obvious a huge passion for food, I just hope he/she is able to turn it around and produce meals to the same standard as the starter and within sufficient time scales. I would recommend the Kings Arms for the food but not for the service. We ate there last week and there were no vegetarian options, no childrens menu ON SUNDAYs only. I wonder what vegetarians and children do on Sundays in Wakefield? When asked what was for dessert, we were bluntly told 'I have no idea'. When I asked, so can you tell me how I find out, the bar staff reluctantly rang the kitchen and found out.. We were about to hand over another £30 but decided to promptly leave after several rounds of actually trying to spend some money..

We booked for the restaurant at the Kings Arms, as we had family up from London and wanted to take them somewhere nice. After waiting for our table 40 minutes after we were supposed to sit down, we were finally shown our table. The man that waited on us was quite rude, and when we asked for another bread roll as they had not put enough out for each person to have one, he tutted and we were told we would have a 10 minute wait (for a bread roll!!) It wasn't busy as we were the only people in the restaurant at that time. The food when it finally arrived wasn't that bad, and the atmosphere was lovely and very inviting, just a shame about the service and the staff member that served us that night. The bar meals we saw them bringing out whilst we were waiting looked very nice. Would go again to try a bar meal, but not to the restaurant!!

Good range of real ales compliment the bar food. Restaurant menu looked very inviting, however there is only so much one can eat at one sitting!
Atmosphere of the bars was fantastic and it was good to see gas lamp lighting adding to the ambience.
