The service at the restaurant was very fast and generally pleasant. The food, whilst not bad, was not perfect. My son's margarita pizza (from the adult menu) had far too much cheddar cheese and no seasoning, and my main course was wrong, I asked for seafood risotto and received pasta, so had to wait a while. My husband did have a very enjoyable penne pasta dish though. This was an early evening supper and we weren't expecting superb standards but thought that for what we did receive it was a little expensive compared to other local establishments.

A wonderfull experience - A quick service, providing some of the best food I have eaten in a long while. The atmosphere is not what I had expected, A large bright dining room, with a separate bar & waiting area. (not an Italian flag or football shirt anywhere to be found..) The service was impeccable and the food matched, clean fresh flavours, rich deep sauces all obviously freshly prepared. The only slight down - the desserts were a little on the tired side. I will however be re booking in the near future.

Went to la Scala on Longsight Road on Saturday night and it was excellent apart from the lager. My many friends who drink lager would vouch that the lager wasn't Stella - this is the only complaint on the evening and unless improved would stop us from visiting again. The food was excellent and they didn't kick us out until 12.30 - a good night was had by all.

Booked a table on recommendation from a friend. Wow !!!!walked in the door and was presently surprised not to find the traditional Italian décor. Orange, brown and black instead of the usual Italian flag colours I was greeted at the bar by a friendly chap and directed to the maître de stand. All the time I was looking around and taking in the atmosphere. My party was escorted straight to the perfectly laid table but in hindsight I wish we had a drink in the bar area first. The menu caused problems, as there was so much wonderful food to choose from. Whilst choosing we ordered drinks which came promptly and perfectly served. When the food arrived I was again impressed with the presentation plates, forks etc every last detail had been thought of. Mmmmmmmmmmmm the food was also excellent the fish melted in my mouth and the side orders where fresh and colourful. Not really much room left for a dessert, but I had one again wonderful. We asked the waiter if we could have coffee in the Bar area and reluctantly he escorted us to the bar area where we sat on comfortable sofas chatted and relaxed to the Duo of Italian music playing in the background. To conclude our evening my friend and I had a cocktail, wish we had started on the sooner!!!!!!!! A must have night in the Ribble Valley but I got the impression you have to book

La Scala has a modern feel to the bar and restaurant and not typically Italian. The bar area has modern lines complete with stylish leather sofas and chairs. The restaurant part again isn't typically Italian, it's features including high back leather chairs and designer cutlery and glasses and on the whole has the "chic" factor and having tried Gavi in Clitheroe, this modern trendy styling seems the way Italian restaurants are going. No Italian football pendants or flags hanging from the walls here! Alas The food, the most important part in my opinion, was excellent. Our starters came within 5 minutes of ordering, the garlic bread was outstanding! Both my girlfriend and myself had pizza and I've got to say it was one of the best I've tried, certainly in this country. The base is how it's supposed to be, thin and crispy and the toppings were very generous. The dessert was typical Italian, Lemon sorbet and ice cream, again well presented and the service was quick and polite. Price wise, it was slightly expensive but I'm of the mentality, if its worth it then I don't mind paying that little bit more. On the whole I would certainly recommend La Scala for great food and service but don't expect an Italian ambience. If you've tried Papa Luigi's in Accrington(now closed) or Franco's in Oswaldtwistle, the settings and decor are examples of Italian style but maybe the tide is turning in favour of the ultra modern which is fine but one thing that must never change is the originality and quality of the food. Never ever.
