About Bistro at the Distillery
Hidden away in the countryside to the northwest of Bassenthwaite Lake, you’ll find what Time Out New York described as one of the ‘best new distilleries in the world’. It opened in December 2014 in a tastefully refurbished Victorian cattle farm and boasts a state-ot-the-art distillery with handmade copper stills, a smart visitor centre with a shop, tours and tastings and a contemporary and informal bistro, consulted by Terry Laybourne and Michelin recommended. Head chef Andy Beaton joined the team after years as head chef at the two-AA-rosette Miller Howe Hotel. The bistro is open every day from 10am until late and you can drop in for a coffee and cake or afternoon tea as well as lunch or dinner. There’s a range of menus available including a fixed price deal available lunch and selected evenings. When weather permits you can dine al fresco in the courtyard and there is also a Boardroom available for meetings and private events. The Lakes Distillery is Cumbria’s only distillery and produces The ONE (a blended British Isles whisky), Lakes Gin, Lakes Vodka with the Lakes Malt due in 2018. If you fancy an overnight stay in this tranquil part of the northern Lakes, the Trout Hotel in Cockermouth is under the same ownership.
