Le Bistro Des Amis sits at the heart of the beautiful market town of Skipton. It’s a characterful venue with a lively French-style bistro at ground level and more of a restaurant feel upstairs. There’s also a mezzanine floor which is great for private dining. You can expect classic French cuisine served alongside modern British dishes based on ingredients sourced locally or direct from the famous French markets. On Thursday 23 July I hosted a birthday meal for 6 people at Bistro des Amis. We enjoyed our meals, despite the poor availability of beers. We paid our bill without query. However, we were left with a 'sour taste' as we discovered from other diners outside the restaurant that staff had failed to automatically deduct the Thursday evening offer - buy one main and second half price -and they had had to ask for this. We missed out on this discount. Diners beware and check your bill carefully.

Love this place usually and went to spend vouchers we’d been given for our anniversary. Service was shocking from the moment we arrived. Waited ages to be asked about a drink then wine plonked on the table (no water offered) Table was not set & we waited half an hour to order starters, all the while we could see tables left completely unattended or in disarray after people had left among us. Staff were stressed from a previous guest and had said meals had been ‘mixed up’ but from our previous experiences and what we could hear in the kitchen, there was something seriously amiss. Usually the manager / owner is around but there wasn’t any sign of him and the staff were visably stressed. We love the food here usually but maybe 8pm Sat is not the time to come as there was inattentive service. Ambient music abruptly stopped, tables completely left downstairs and not what we had experienced in the past. The mains were steak which we’d asked for rare and medium which came with rushed presentation and ‘rare’ definitely not rare. If this restaurant is to keep being open in Skipton, please have some sort of management all of the time, not teenagers running the place which they obviously weren’t able to do (through no fault of their own). I’ve recommended this place to so many people in the past but never again - terrible experience.

My Dad and I travel to Skipton to have lunch here several times a year and they never let us down. Generous portions, very good wine list and always friendly service. Thanks to Taylor on this occasion, who bravely endured my Dad's terrible jokes - see you all in the autumn!

Had queen scallops started sadly this dish was overcooked followed by seafood parcels they had very little seafood in the parcel and the meal was tepid at best. I am afraid I was disappointed and doubt that I will return

The young staff were very friendly and attentive. We sat upstairs and there was a great ambience about the restaurant. The choice of menu was excellent as were our meals. We've never eaten there before but we definitely will return. Thank you for an enjoyable evening.

Four of us ate here on a Tuesday evening. Restaurant was full and consequently the two staff on duty had a hard job taking drinks and food orders, serving, clearing, cleaning glasses etc. Consequently although they tried their best service could never be good. For instance we were not asked how the food was. One of our party had ordered a mushroom pate starter which was very runny in texture and didn't taste of mushrooms. Another had a hair in their main course. At the end we asked for the starter which hadn't been eaten to be taken off the bill but this was denied. Also the billboard outside stayed that if two people had two courses on Monday to Wednesday then £10 would be taken from the bill. This was also denied. This was a shame. No sign of any management but someone needs to organise and train staff

Being new to the area, we have been sampling various restaurants to find a few favourites so we can make recommendations to our visitors. We booked the Bistro for our anniversary dinner based on the reviews. We are not fussy people but for a meal of £100 + we were disappointed. I'm happy to say my French onion soup was terrific, however scallops were unavailable - the crab starter a little bland. The salmon in the filo parcel had the skin left on - not nice. The pork dish was fine but both main courses had very little vegetables served; a quarter of a carrot and peas in stringy inedible pods. Again not pleasant. I'm pretty certain the feedback I gave to the kitchen via the waitress never reached them, as the waitresses showed little customer service or engagement - oh, until it came to the service charge which was automatically added to the bill. Sorry le Bistro you're going to have to try harder if you want our repeat business.
