About Llys Meddyg Pembrokeshire

Llys Meddyg is a gem of a hotel nestled underneath Carningli (the Mountain of the Angels) at Newport on the Nevern estuary, within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The Georgian townhouse offers a unique blend of old and new with elegant furnishings, deep sofas and a welcoming fire. The menu at Llys Meddyg champions foraged ingredients from the shores, hedgerows and their own kitchen garden alongside seasonal fresh ingredients from passionate local producers, cooked in a wood-fired kitchen and designed to celebrate what’s best in season. The Dining Room, at the heart of the building, has intimate tables for couples, family and friends. Or you can enjoy an evening meal or drink in the enclosed Secret Garden where outdoor pods have bench seating and overhead heating. The Cellar Bar is located in the oldest part of the building and dates back to the 15th century when it was a mariners bar.  With its flagstone floor, log burner and inglenook fireplace, it has a unique atmosphere of curiosity, warmth and conviviality. All the bedrooms at Llys Meddyg are large, bright and comfortable with contemporary en suite facilities, double bed and stunning interiors. The hotel is a great base from which to explore the breathtaking beaches, rivers, woods and mountains that are just a stone’s throw away from your door.

Was very excited to come here, booked many months in advance of our holiday. Absolutely beautiful location, the garden is stunning and the smell of wood fire just adds so a lovely ambience. We arrived a bit early for our table to get a drink, table booked at 8, but we weren't sat until 8:30, no one told us there was going to be a delay but it was clear there were some issues with it being their busiest night of the year - totally understandable, but just a little more contact/update would have been great. Admittedly I was quite disappointed as I had booked specifically to be in the garden but we were sat inside, albeit a lovely a dining room. Our waiter was excellent, incredibly lovely and personable, he saved the evening for us. Our table top was loose so it would rock back and forth if we leant on it, and the table next to us was the same (let the waiter know, not really something that can be fixed during service). Admittedly we were a tad disappointed with being sat late and inside, so decided to just go straight to mains and forgo a starter, although they sounded great. Food was undeniably excellent, you have a very talented team of chefs and brilliant ingredients. This place has the makings of somewhere very special, and perhaps we were just unlucky with it being so busy, just a few screws to be tightened (literally and figuratively) and it would be a truly magical experience, a little more communication with customers, and perhaps a pre-emptive apology drinks for the wait, would have made this a 5/5 night. Definitely would recommend for the food alone!

A trip to Newport just wouldn’t be the same without visiting the secret garden. Whilst we only visit annually to celebrate our wedding anniversary, the secret garden never fails to impress and create the perfect atmosphere to celebrate eternal friendship and love. Our meals always enhance the experience with locally sort ingredients, prepared and cooked with care and taste better with each mouthful. We have always shared the experience with “Pablo” the pug who is always most welcome and enjoys the opportunity to say hello to the wonderful staff We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2027! Until then everyone who reads this have a great year and hope you enjoy a little piece of magic at the secret garden.

I would agree with an earlier reviewer about the plaice. Just a bit boring and tasteless Im afraid. And the inclusion of rhubarb wrecked an otherwise excellent creme brulee. My friends enjoyed their pork though. The service was tippy toppy and the pods are a treat. I’ll certainly be back as it is a special experience.

Booked a table here as it was the last night before a friend left to go home. Coincidentally it was the same night as the eclipse and - sure enough- the skies darkened as we sipped our aperitifs and then lightened as our starters arrived! A delicious local crab and similarly tasty octopus with chorizo ragu. Onto mains: Welsh pork on a burnt butter sauce, with lovely garlicky greens and fries and Pembrokeshire spuds for sides. We sat outside in one of their pods but moved for coffees out onto one of the tables. Lovely and spacious and attentive staff and a pretty extensive wine list. All in all a great evening out and to be thoroughly recommended!!

It really is a “Secret Garden” tucked away behind the building, so you feel like you’re out in the wilderness. The pods are really cosy and the staff are lovely - not to mention the delicious food. We will be back for sure !

I expected better. Nice ambience and pleasant service. But my plaice was short on taste with vegetables that were hard work. And the cheese board was tiny amounts of three supermarket cheeses with four crackers

We had simply the best evening out with friends at The secret Garden - Llys Meddyg, the location and ambiance is amazing. The food delicious and the service impeccable. I can't recommend enough.
