About Llys Meddyg Pembrokeshire

Llys Meddyg is a gem of a hotel nestled underneath Carningli (the Mountain of the Angels) at Newport on the Nevern estuary, within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The Georgian townhouse offers a unique blend of old and new with elegant furnishings, deep sofas and a welcoming fire. The menu at Llys Meddyg champions foraged ingredients from the shores, hedgerows and their own kitchen garden alongside seasonal fresh ingredients from passionate local producers, cooked in a wood-fired kitchen and designed to celebrate what’s best in season. The Dining Room, at the heart of the building, has intimate tables for couples, family and friends. Or you can enjoy an evening meal or drink in the enclosed Secret Garden where outdoor pods have bench seating and overhead heating. The Cellar Bar is located in the oldest part of the building and dates back to the 15th century when it was a mariners bar.  With its flagstone floor, log burner and inglenook fireplace, it has a unique atmosphere of curiosity, warmth and conviviality. All the bedrooms at Llys Meddyg are large, bright and comfortable with contemporary en suite facilities, double bed and stunning interiors. The hotel is a great base from which to explore the breathtaking beaches, rivers, woods and mountains that are just a stone’s throw away from your door.

Feel I must write a review after a very special meal in the Secret Garden for my birthday. What a spot! Fairytale setting in amongst the trees with the fire pit nearby, ambient music in the background and fantastic service. My cocktail was excellent and the food also excellent. Worth a trip to sit in the garden pods and have a special experience.

I hardly ever write reviews but our two night stay at Llys Meddyg deserves a few words. Everything was perfect. We were welcomed warmly at check-in. Our room was comfortable and stylish. In the restaurant, the food, the ambiance and the service was first class. If there was a highlight to our stay it was the staff - friendly, efficient and relaxed - nothing was too much trouble and everything delivered with a smile. Thank you Llys Meddyg. Diolch yn fawr.

What to say about Llys Meddyg...this is difficult because our meals on two consecutive nights were like chalk and cheese, which is why I've left the ratings in the middle. On the first night, we weren't expecting to eat in the hotel restaurant as we'd been warned that it might not be open on a Tuesday night. How delighted we were to find that not only was it open, but the food was superb. Everything we ate was incredible...we took pictures, raved about it to friends etc. We couldn't decide what to order and shared a lot of the dishes. Service and food were all amazing, not cheap but worth it. I can hardly begin to write how different our experience was on the following night - a disaster from start to finish - let me count the ways! Warm champagne; mucked up wine flight; a starter that had been fantastic on the previous evening but was presented completely differently (we needed a spoon); burnt beef; too long to bring the second attempt at a main; no cutlery; extremely poor service (we were pretty much ignored). It was a different chef, which might explain the difference. Not good enough given the prices. My partner was mortified as, unfortunately, the meal on the second night was for my special birthday. We were refunded some elements of my meal but not enough to make up for the evening being ruined. They say consistency is everything in hospitality. I notice that most of the reviews are glowing, so maybe we just got very unlucky. I have to say that breakfast on both mornings of our stay was fantastic. Our room was also very comfortable (but they need to sort out a better solution for providing milk).

We have just returned home having spent 3 nights in this delightful place. On the first evening we ate in The Secret Garden within a tented pod. The firepit was aglow within this beautiful and unique style of garden. The food was superb, delicious, tasty and satisfying to the palate . Each course was paired with a recommended wine which worked so well. The service was excellent. Each morning we ate breakfast in the dining room. High standards of food served so pleasantly. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant with rooms. Our dog Meg enjoyed her stay in this wonderful part of Wales.

This is a special and unique place. This was the 2nd time my husband and I have been (the first time we stayed 2 nights - the breakfast was the best ever!) and this time we brought friends, who loved it, for a meal! Tip top very tasty well presented plates with ingredients and flavours to die for! Lovely friendly relaxed service. Great atmosphere.

A beautiful evening meal & overnight stay at Llys Meddyg. The food deserves more than 5/5 and we had a lovely room which was furnished beautifully too. Extra special touch with the lemon shortbread too. Staff are super friendly, knowledgeable about the food/wine. Can't wait to return. Thank You!
