About Mateo’s

Set within The Old Brewery opposite Castle Eden Golf Club, Mateo’s has brought a new Mediterranean feel to a well-known local dining spot. The menu takes a broad approach, mixing tapas and sharing plates with pizzas, pasta, steaks, seafood and Mediterranean-inspired mains, offering plenty of choice whether dropping in for a casual lunch or settling in for an evening meal. Interiors have been refreshed to create a lighter, more contemporary feel, while regular themed evenings and a relaxed atmosphere add to the appeal. With Sunday lunches, small plates and crowd-pleasing favourites all part of the mix, it aims to be an accessible neighbourhood restaurant with something to suit most tastes.

A lovely welcoming restaurant that serves great food that all can enjoy. Matt and his team are friendly and helpful. We would recommend a trip to anybody interested in good food and an enjoyable dining experience as we return time and again.

Recently visited for the second time and can't fault the place. Food service and atmosphere excellent, had the added bonus of a saxophone player who was also superb which was a nice touch, one of the best restaurants in the area, we'll definitely return

Had dinner here on Wednesday evening. Once again service spot on and food delicious. They had a steak night offer on which also included a fish option for the main rather than steak, which we both chose the fish. The deal included 2 courses and a bottle of house wine so excellent value. Enjoyed it so much we returned for lunch the following day. Hubby had pizza & I chose pollo Mateo, both with a side of their hand cut proper chips and again both delicious. Also had desserts, gooseberry crumle & lemon Meringue. Yummy, can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

My hubby and myself love this little restaurant and yesterday I took my friend for lunch. Same great service and delicious food. I had Hake which was fresh, white & flakey and perfectly cooked with cherry tomatoes in a white wine and garlic sauce. My friend chose chicken in and rosemary and garlic sauce, she said the chicken was tender and delicious. We both had sides of handcut chips. One of my favourites when we come here, they are proper homemade chips, yummy. We made room for dessert and both chose tiramisu. The potion was very generous and came with fresh Berries. Cannot fault the service here, very welcoming and relaxed.

Excellent friendly service. Well presented meals of hake and seabass. Very generous portions and delicious food. Followed by sticky toffee pudding… superb. Will definitely return.

We had a two course Sunday lunch. The food was delicious and the portion size was good and the price was reasonable. I would definitely recommend and intend to come back. We have had meals during the week at lunchtime which were also very good. The staff and owner were very friendly and made sure we were happy with our food and drinks.
