Still the best bar in town. getting very busy all the time now, so book in advance if you want a table. The pizzas are still great and they recently added a tapas menu, which is also great! Wine list? Great.Only citicisms are; toilets could do with a refurb, and there's nowhere to hang your coat if the tables or bar stools are all occupied.

I discovered Matt & Phreds a few weeks after it opened and have never had a disappointing night. This is how a Jazz club should be - well run, nice food, wide selection of quality wines, great staff, and a cool atmosphere. Did I also mention that the Jazz is the Best in Manchester? A unique experience.

places like this really do define a city, people who care obviously run this joint, go at night and revell in the cool,laid back and buzzy atmosphere. great bar for proper drinks, no idiots. all in all one of the very best bars in town.

THE only place in Manchester for live jazz every night, and the pizzas are great too! Been coming here since it opened three years ago, and forget how good the atmosphere is untill I have to go somwhere else,and suffer drunken oafs and bad drinks. This place always serves a great vodka+tonic. Ice and a slice, a free pour measure and bottled tonic. Good wine list as well, house red is a very drinkable Cab Sav. All in all, an oasis of individuality, civility and style in a city that could do with more of the same and less of the coporate look and taste alike.(rant over)
