About Maxis

Maxis opened in York in 1999, 10 years after the original Maxis in Leeds, and with its elaborate oriental styling cost £1.4 million to build. Maxis serves Cantonese and Peking cuisine prepared by experienced chefs from Hong Kong and China. Choose from a la carte, set menus, banquets and dim sum with plenty of choice for vegetarians too. A great-value lunch offer is available too weekdays (except Wednesday) and Maxis also has a large free car park. There is also a sister venue, Maxi’s Rotisserie, inside Leeds Kirkgate Market on the Butcher’s Row, serving specialised roast meats like Peking roast duck, char siu and premium soya sauce chicken.

We almost always go for dim sum: it is well cooked, well presented and is very tasty. There is a good variety and it is easy to choose from clear pictures on the menu. The waiters will always help, too. London restaurants may have trollies so that you can choose from the real thing, but the whole experience in York is at least as good, if not better. Whether you are a regular diner or a newcomer you'll enjoy your meal.

Been coming here for decades and, while we miss things like the little table heaters keeping the food hot and hot towels to wipe your fingers and hands at the end of the meal, the service has only improved over the years and is now friendly, welcoming and efficient, and the food has always been consistently good. Obviously that's why we keep coming back! Thoroughly recommended.

Yesterday, I took my child and his friends to the restaurant for a birthday celebration. We brought our own cake and utensils. The staff was incredibly attentive—they proactively cleared our table, provided a fresh set of tableware, and even played a birthday song for us. Other guests applauded, making it a truly surprising and heartwarming experience. I deeply appreciate the staff's outstanding hospitality and warm service!

Had a wonderful meal last weekend for a birthday celebration for my wife. Service was quick, food was hot and the portion sizes were plentiful. So much so, that we still had some left after we felt full. Staff were friendly and very helpful.

Booked for an 18th birthday lunch, Arrived at 2pm and was shown to our table. It was at the very edge of the restaurant, quite dark and cool. We waited for quite some time to get drinks and then waited again for them to be served. The restaurant was practically emtpy so could not understand the delay. It was the same with the meal, we given our main meal plates and by the time the food arrived , the plates were nearly cold. We have gone to Maxis for years and have found the service excellent, but this time it was not good. The waiter looked very sad and he is usually very chatty
