About Mere Court Restaurant

Nestled in Mere, near Knutsford, in the heart of Cheshire, Mere Court Hotel was originally built in 1903 as a wedding gift for William and Amy Dunkerley. Today, it has been lovingly restored into a luxury country house hotel, set within beautiful landscaped grounds. At the heart of the original house lies the charming Lakeside Restaurant, offering a truly special dining experience. From intimate dinners and business meals to family celebrations, the menu showcases the very best of seasonal ingredients, complemented by an extensive selection of fine wines from around the world. Sundays are made for tradition with a classic roast dinner, while the indulgent afternoon tea – complete with homemade scones, delicate cakes, and freshly prepared sandwiches – can be enjoyed indoors or al fresco in the tranquil gardens.

Amazing stay, lovey hotel. The staff were great couldn’t do enough. The restaurant staff where so friendly and the birthday surprises made my husbands day. Apart from the problems sleeping due to a strange vibrating noise, I would definitely stay again

Discreet service in a traditional setting: beautiful! The warm scones were amongst the best tasted ( by two home cooks) . Worth a trip alone... Wonderfully hospitable and accommodating staff was the first impression after drawing up late to the century old and more front porch. Nothing too much bother (we had our previously undeclared dietary wishes quickly addressed) in a relaxed and comfortable setting. Our room had original architectural features, yet was warm and welcoming too. We ate a number of meals here and each was delicious as well as generous. A good selection, too, of cuisines. We could not manage all of the traditional ( ie not overly elaborate) afternoon tea but enjoyed what we did. One of our party had mobility issues so the especially well adapted shower room added to our ease. Would return. October 2025

The staff who greeted us, they were very nice, the young lady who served our drinks & afternoon tea, she was extremely nice. The AT was lovely, but we expected a variety of cakes, we were served a scone each, a tiny piece of Madeira cake, also there were a couple of macarons on the plate

I took a few friends to the Mere Court Hotel for my birthday. The surroundings were lovely and the staff very attentive without being all over you. The tables were nicely laid out and we ordered our choice of a selection of teas. The cake stands came out - 2 between four. The scones were all right but there was not enough cream. I thought the dish was for one not between two. The little cakes on the top tier were very uninspiring. I only ate the bakewell which was very tasty but rather small. I was told the lemon drizzle was not lemony enough. It was really disappointing as the ambience was lovely but the food was not up to par really. Only 2 other couples were in that afternoon.

A charming venue for afternoon tea. We received a very warm welcome, attentive service and tasty, beautifully presented food. Will definitelygo back again.

We had a lovely afternoon tea here on Monday 29th September. Everything was very nice indeed and the service we got from Annie and Maria was faultless. We enjoyed the offering and as it was a gift I can't say anything about value for money as I don't actually now the cost (we had the traditional afternoon tea) but I have had better ones - this one was in part quite 'basic' but still very enjoyable so if not overly expensive definitely a good choice. The only factor that 'spoiled 'it a bit for us was the fact that the actual room it was served in although lovely to look at was so cold! I think they need to realise that at this time of year some more elderly people (like ourselves) will be starting to feel the cold and it was a large and more or less empty of other people room.

Had an Afternoon tea on Monday 29 September being coming here for years and the Afternoon tea has always been lovely but this time the food stand came and it looked meagre, two tiny pieces of drizzle cake two tiny pieces of cherry cake and one very small macaroon, scones were fine but meagre sandwiches, room was nicely decorated but very noisy because there was a Conference on we usually are seated in one of the small rooms, on a plus side the two Ladies serving are lovely but they were badly let down by the poor display of an Afternoon tea !!!

Came here for afternoon tea for the first time and can say it will probably be the last. My wife and I go for afternoon tea somewhere different every Saturday and this was the worst yet. We thought with the reviews it would be good and as it was our 10th wedding anniversary we tried somewhere new. We weren’t offered a drink The food was sat in front of us with no explanation of what anything was, like what happens at every afternoon tea we have been too. The sandwiches where soggy, the quality was terrible, the sweets where really poor And we where just left alone with zero customer service at all. There was a wedding on in the other room so maybe this is why our food and service was so poor. There was only us there for the afternoon also so that could be another reason. The notes on my booking actually said it was a 10 year wedding anniversary and they still didn’t ask if we wanted a drink nor even mention our wedding anniversary. Really really disappointing all round.

We had an overnight stay at the hotel, before flying from Manchester. Meal was excellent, particularly the sea bass - best I’ve had! My husband had the chicken which was excellent. Very friendly, efficient staff. We were so impressed, we stayed for a bar meal of steak and ale pie on our return.
