About Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel

Surrounded by mountains and situated right in the heart of the Lake District at Great Langdale, the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel has a history stretching back 300 years. Originally a farmhouse, this 13-room traditional Lakeland inn is popular with walkers, climbers and everyone who appreciates the spectacular scenery. Mist things on the menu are home made - including chips, jam and marmalade - and much of the produce sourced from within a 25-mile radius. Food is served in the evenings only from 6pm-7.30pm and there are regular music nights every Wednesday where you can bring your own instrument and join in. Check the website for last-minute deals in the off-season.

I don't think I have ever looked forward to a beer as much as the one on Saturday after a hot sweaty climb in the Langdales. The Windermere Pale Ale was awesome! I ordered 2 at the same time as the bar was so busy. Very much enjoyed the Chilli with chips & rice. Hearty portions were needed and delivered. One of the best locations in the lakes too!

Unpretentious, great beer in the famous cowshed Hikers Bar, hearty simple yet quality food, lovely rooms with stunning views, very well priced., friendly staff who are nearly all their to climb some of the best rock faces in England and nearly all of the best walks in the Lakes literally from their door What’s not to love

what a delightful place to stay with our doggie (puppy Bella). We just loved the room, food, ale, staff. Everyone made our special stay in this hotel for our 25th Wedding Ann 23.5.12, big party held on 26.5.12 in Poole Dorset. I was able to climb Blea Tarn just stunning place to be!!! Fantastic stripped down raw pub the ODG. This place has real character. It used to be a cattle shed and still retains those features. Its full of hikers and rock climbers so the food is hearty as well as being tasty. Great selection of beers too. Its very popular due to this and its awesome location in the Langdale valley. It is also a hotel and has a more refined restaurant if thats more your thing. A must if in Langdale and better than its newer namesake.
