About One Eighty Eight Kitchen & Bar

One Eighty Eight Bar & Kitchen opened in January 2017 in Whitefield, a part of north Manchester that's fast becoming a real destination for foodies. For chef-patron David Gale, it's the next step in a glittering culinary career - he's opened two restaurants for Alain Ducasse, arguably the world's best chef, he was part of the team that won three Michelin stars at Chez Nico, he's run kitchens in London, Manchester and New York and latterly was head chef at the Hilton in Manchester. He describes One Eighty Eight as a 'modern British casual dining brasserie' and the aim is to satisfy everyone, through both the food and a fluid use of space. Open for brunch, lunch and dinner every day, the restaurant spreads over two floors with a bar and more casual dining at ground level and restaurant and open kitchen above. The menu covers all the bases from simple plates to fine dining and caters for halal, kosher, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free. Even the kids' menus come in pink or blue! Steaks figure prominently on the menu and are sourced from award-winning butchers Mettrick's in Glossop. Starters include Pan-roast scallops with peas and Bury black pudding and Beetroot and crushed feta with toasted hazelnuts and dill. For main, try Roast rump of lamb served with parsnip, kale and garlic potatoes or Grilled line-caught sea bass comes with cauliflower, mint and pomegranate couscous. The food is complemented by a well-chosen and good-value wine list as well as a selection of cocktails.

Without doubt the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. A gourmet lunchtime treat in the this new Whitefield restaurant co-owned by the talented chef David Gale. Will be back at night for a more leisurely feast and get stuck into their wine list!

Food was of great standard and staff were delightful. Deco was very elegant and chic. We went for brunch and even though it was the official first opening day, we were not disappointed. The free ranged pouched eggs with spicy tomatoes, served on toasted bloomer bread was every bit as tasty as it looked and seasoned to perfection. The slight spice of the tomatoes and the dressing complimented the creamy poach eggs perfectly. The Chef also came to great us which was a very nice touch. Highly recommended.
