About Pesto Italiano

Pesto Italiano is a new Italian restaurant that opened on Durham’s Silver Street in September 2023. The carefully curated menu brings the flavours of Italy to life with handcrafted pastas, a selection of risotti and the unmistakable aroma of wood-fired pizzas. There are also steak, chicken and fish main courses as well as burgers. Pesto Italiano is open for lunch and dinner every day with bookings taken from 12 noon right through to the last booking slots at 9pm. The restaurant is fully licensed with a choice of Italian and New World wines plus Birra Murano and Santiago 32 Lager on draught.

Tucked, this charming little Italian restaurant is all about warmth, great service, and truly delicious food. The staff were welcoming and attentive, making sure drinks arrived promptly and ensuring that even our picky little eaters (aged 9 and 5) left with happy tummies. What really set this place apart was the personal touch—they happily let us bring a birthday cake for my mother-in-law and went above and beyond, bringing it out with candles, joining in with a celebratory song, and even serving it with ice cream for us all to enjoy. It’s these thoughtful details that make a meal memorable. The food itself was fantastic—authentic, flavourful, and served with care. If you’re after a cosy, friendly spot where service and hospitality shine, this is the place. A true hidden gem in Durham that we’ll be recommending to all our friends and family

Easy online booking process. Food was very tasty, well presented and value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely evening with friends.

Requested an intimate table for a date if possible during online booking, and when we arrived, we had the whole top floor to ourselves, the table was decorated with napkins folded into hearts, a personalised message was there wishing us the best for our date and future from the whole staff, and the music felt like it had been hand picked just for us. The extra mile the staff went to in making this date special for us was incredible. Katy, our waitress, is an asset to the restaurant, she made it for us, she is the most bubbly, happy, positive person we've met in a long time, she really did go the extra mile in making our evening special, she took notice, was patient, attentive without being overbearing, and absolute delight to have serving us. The food was out of this world, absolutely beautiful. Above and beyond does not do justice to this restaurant or it's staff. The memory of this date will stay with us throughout our relationship.
