Went to Platform 9 last night (10/06/2010) the welcome was warm and friendly as was the restaurant. We waited to be seated by a log fire in a nice cosy waiting area, with a glass of wine and a canape. The menu is fairly brief but everything on it sounded very appetising and it was a difficult choice to decide. I decided on King prawns in chilli and coconut sauce, my wife had twice baked cheese souffle and my mother in law had the liver parfait. All the starters were excellent, cooked perfectly and wonderfully tasty. For mains my wife and I had the Hotpot and my mother in law had Cajun Chicken. Again the food was wonderfully cooked and very very tasty, the portions were of a very healthy size (I do have a good appetite) the lamb just melted and black pudding fritters are a winner. Only my wife and i managed a sweet with Chocolate parfait for her and ginger ice cream in a brandy snap basket with butterscotch sauce they again were superb. The whole meal was accompanied by a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, there was no hurry for you to eat up and get out and there was enough time between courses to have a chat and let the food settle before the next course arrived, without feeling like you were waiting too long. Its good to see Platform 9 open again and I will be back to eat there again. As to value, 3 courses for 2 of us and 2 courses for the other with drinks and coffees came to about £35 a head which for the quality of food and service and location/atmosphere was very very good value for money. I think worth every penny and I would recommend Platform for anyone looking for a good meal.

We stayed here last weekend. Booked all three rooms and were pleasantly surprised to see how modern they were. Each room had an individuality and all were absolutely gorgeous and big! Breakfast was lovely getting whatever we wanted. Also had tea the night before which was perfect - recommend the scottish classic. Superb. We were there to go walking and the chef catered to all our needs including a packed lunch for our walk. Fantastic and we will be going back again! Very soon.

On the recommendation of a friend who had visited some months ago, my wife and I decided to go there for a relaxing weekend. What a lovely peaceful break that was, with good food, and very friendly service. Shame we can't go every weekend! We would happily recommend Platform 9 to anyone.

This place is a B&B located in the lovely village of St Bees in Cumbria, I stayed here with my partner in April 2007.
An excellent, traditional, cosy B&B. Friendly staff, my partner and I were made to feel very welcome........
The food was fantastic, cooked to perfection.
They have three rooms, we stayed in the Orient Express, comfortable bed, clean and cosy room.
Great atmosphere, great staff......
Looking forward to the next time.....

this review is for what it USED to be like! now it is so bad it is being sold! if i had to review it now i would give a poor for everything! i have lived in st.bees village many years and the platform nine (formally the french connection of which i know it as!) has always been the heart and sole of the villages easy parking at the back and very inviting atmosphere! i used to love going there not even for the outstanding food but just for the people and the social side of things! i really do wish the people who were owned it before were still there as the new owners (soon to be gone)are nowhere near as good! you could really have the whole family with the Jennings they were all very friendly!
i would also like to add that if anywhere you see that it says the owners of the restaurant have owned it for 22 years that is absolute crap because it was the previous owners that owned it for 25 years! how these new people think they can get away with recommending their restaurant by saying they have been there for 22 years disgusts me!
thank you
