About The Plough at Whitegate

Hard to find but well worth the effort, the Plough at Whitegate is hidden away in a tranquil corner of the Cheshire countryside, not too far from both Winsford and Northwich. The inn dates back to 1869 and prior to that was a beer house. It also sits just off the Whitegate Way, which runs along an old railway line, and is a popular stop for both walkers and cyclists. Food is served every day from 12 noon through to 9pm (8pm Sundays) and the menu is packed full of mouth-watering dishes plus a choice of daily specials. There’s also a range of quality cask ales and an extensive wine list alongside draught lagers, ciders, soft drinks and a selection of coffees to choose from. The Plough also has a landscaped garden area with heated pods available.

A meal out whilst visiting family. A great choice once again in a lovely setting with both food and service being excellent. The ladies enjoyed their sunday roasts whilst I went with my usual choice Steak pie. A really enjoyable visit , thank you.

Two of us went to the Plough for lunch. Quite busy at 12.30, but we had prompt friendly service. Also had 25% off all food which was a big bonus! Friend had a mixed grill ...generous portions and faultless. My cheese pie was tasty and the new chips are fab. Even managed sticky toffee pud ... perfect lunch enjoyed by us all... thanks

Ate in the plough on Friday and Tuesday last week. Had the same meal. Ham egg and chips on the menu. On both occassionsvo swapped the chips for a jacket potato. No problem at all on the Friday. But an additional charge for the swap added on Tuesday. Waitress unable to explain why. Ate as a couple on Friday. Came with 4 friends on Tuesday. 2 of us had the additional charge. Disappointed with charge and inability to justify it. We were using 25% discount voucher. Seemed to be a petty way of offsetting the discount. We love the food here but this was off-putting.

Our meal consisted of 3 courses, there were 4 diners, each having different starters and mains, the food was delicious and could not faulted.,desserts were genous in the portion size. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. A good selection of beer and wine. Will definitely be back.

We all enjoyed the ambience of the pub , friendly staff , lovely and warm. The starters we had were superb , very generous and tasty. However two of us selected the chicken which was excellent but two of us selected the fish pie which was dried up and no sauce making it virtually inedible. Such a shame as all the other meals were of a high standard. We will return and hope that this has been improved.

Our most recent visit was for Sunday lunch and the pub had obviously been busy but was starting to clear as we arrived. The service was unusually slow and it wasn't clear why it was taking so long as there were few new arrivals. When the food came it was plentiful, fresh and hot and was worth the wait and we enjoyed it. Nearly didn't stay for dessert due to the wait and the restaurant filling up again but I enjoyed my pie.
