About The Plough at Whitegate

Hard to find but well worth the effort, the Plough at Whitegate is hidden away in a tranquil corner of the Cheshire countryside, not too far from both Winsford and Northwich. The inn dates back to 1869 and prior to that was a beer house. It also sits just off the Whitegate Way, which runs along an old railway line, and is a popular stop for both walkers and cyclists. Food is served every day from 12 noon through to 9pm (8pm Sundays) and the menu is packed full of mouth-watering dishes plus a choice of daily specials. There’s also a range of quality cask ales and an extensive wine list alongside draught lagers, ciders, soft drinks and a selection of coffees to choose from. The Plough also has a landscaped garden area with heated pods available.

We usually have Sunday lunch at Plough - and quality is usually good - however yesterday 16 August main course was shocking! Looked like it had been thrown on plate Yorkshire pudding was hard and inedible Turkey was sloppy and awful beef was tough roast potatoes shop bought and weren’t cooked properly - the redeeming feature was spotes dick dessert - good -we will return for lunch but 3 strikes and we won’t be returning!

Had lunch on a Thursday with a group of 16 following a 5 ml walk. Everyone though food was excellent, our pie guru rated the pie 9.5/10. The staff were excellent as usual and served a large group very promptly. We will definitely return as a group and individually. Some members would have liked a wider choice of salads at this time of year,

Three of us went for lunch - quite busy but we were served promptly. The meals were excellent, beautiful haddock and their special chips - hot and crispy ...perfect. Friends meat pie was delicious too, and amazingly we found space for light as a feather sticky toffee pud. Couldn't fault anything - thanks to all

On arrival we had pre booked for 3pm our table was not ready until 3.30pm not too bad we enjoyed drinks in the beer garden but no apology was given, We ordered 7 meals 6/7 were great roast dinners and a burger however sadly 1 meal of regular gammon steak was awful more fat than gammon a young girl on the floor said she would deduct 25% off the gammon still appalling as it was awful even another member of staff had said she would eat this either, we did argue our point and did get the gammon removed from the bill but sadly we felt this wasn’t dealt with great the blonde girl appeared to be rude about it then made our stay here feel awquid and not wanted which is very sad and very unprofessional we often come here we’ve never complained before we were celebrating a birthday and didn’t think we got dealt with very nicely which is sad we often spend a lot of money here and I do feel now we maybe not return due to this
