About The Plough at Whitegate

Hard to find but well worth the effort, the Plough at Whitegate is hidden away in a tranquil corner of the Cheshire countryside, not too far from both Winsford and Northwich. The inn dates back to 1869 and prior to that was a beer house. It also sits just off the Whitegate Way, which runs along an old railway line, and is a popular stop for both walkers and cyclists. Food is served every day from 12 noon through to 9pm (8pm Sundays) and the menu is packed full of mouth-watering dishes plus a choice of daily specials. There’s also a range of quality cask ales and an extensive wine list alongside draught lagers, ciders, soft drinks and a selection of coffees to choose from. The Plough also has a landscaped garden area with heated pods available.

Sunday 12th July, meal for two at The Plough. Although I didn't find the menu had many summer style options (varopus salad choices, lighter main meals) the food we ordered, Liver, bacon, mash potatoes with red wine gravy and Fish and Chips, both were delicious and filling. We were too full for desserts, bit would have liked a coffee, unfortunately the coffee machine was out of order, so we left a little earlier than we would have liked. The staff were friendly and pleasant. Good sized car park. The pub was very quiet for a Sunday evening at 7pm!
