In a word - Outstanding!
Glynn Purnell has been let loose with his creative freedom with his own venture in the City Centre and it can only serve to improve people's palattes. 3 of us went for Saturday dinner and opted for the 3 course a la carte (having tried the gastronique surprise last time), the desserts all sounded so tempting that we ordered all 4! Every single one of the ten different dishes we had were spectacular - even the amuse of cucumber sorbet, Ras El Hanout cream and mint oil was sublime.
Service was friendly without being too familiar or indeed, too stuffy which you can find in some high-end dining establishments
Purnell's is the kind of place that not only do I want to go back to, but my mouth is already watering at the prospect of doing so.
Purnell's is a chic, contemporary fine-dining restaurant located in one of Birmingham city centre's finest conservation areas, close to Colmore Row and St Phillips Cathedral. Set up by Michelin starred Birmingham chef, Glynn Purnell in July 2007, the 45 cover restaurant occupies a Victorian redbrick and terracotta corner building, with large windows on both sides providing plenty of natural light during the day. The restaurant has its own bar and lounge area, for diners only, where a pre-dinner cocktail or after dinner coffee or digestif can be enjoyed on comfortable sofas.
Glynn Purnell’s bold and innovative cooking that has brought him critical acclaim and numerous awards including a Michelin star provides the ultimate gourmet adventure.
‘A la carte’ and ‘prix fixe’ menus are available for lunch and dinner, as well as 5 and 7 course tasting menus.
