About Queens Head Inn Tirril

Dating back to 1719, The Queens Head Inn is a country pub, restaurant and hotel in the small village of Tirril, close to Penrith and a stone’s throw from Ullswater. It's everything you would expect of an ancient inn with low ceilings, dark wooden beams and furniture, original flagstone floors, an inglenook fireplace and two-foot-thick walls which keep it warm in winter and cool in summer. Real ales and hearty home-cooked food feature along with plenty of vegan and gluten-free choices, roast dinners, and a Seasonal Specials menu. There is plenty of outside seating too both in the garden and on the heated and covered terrace area. The Queens Head Inn also has seven ensuite and pet-friendly bedrooms.

Sorry to say and I love to support local businesses but we went for Sunday lunch and the meal was terrible. There was five of us and all five thought our meals were appalling. My roast chicken was neither a breast or a leg and I feel it had been deeep fried as it was crispy. Sorry to say I won’t be going back.

Went for a family Sunday lunch. There were 6 of us and we all had a Sunday dinner. The staff could not have done enough for us or our dog. Food was piping hot and absolutely delicious. 100% recommend here for Sunday lunch.

What a lovely old pub, and a great find. Had such a lovely visit. Staff were very attentive and pleasant. Met the new managers who were so helpful and accommodating. They've only been there a few months and are really working hard to turn this pub around. Doing a great job up to now. Definitely worth a visit and will look forward to going again. Food is homecooking, straightforward and great portions. Perfect quiet location to get away from busy Penrith and Pooley Bridge, bang in the middle. Easy bus or taxi drive. Looking forward to returning in the summer. Will definitely book ahead as this place will get so busy in the coming months

Had Sunday lunch whilst visiting the area. The pub is very old full of charm and character. The staff were very friendly and the roast dinner was huge and very good. We would definitely visit again and as they have rooms we would happily over night there and enjoy an evening in the bar.

Sorry to say but we didn’t eat. We arrived just before 6pm. We waited about 25 mins for a drink at the table. Another 20 mins for our order to be taken and after being there an hour a half our food still had not arrived. We did ask how long but we were not prepared to wait any longer. There were complaints in the dining room from a large party that the food that they had pre ordered ( which arrived an hour or so late) was not cooked properly namely the chicken. This put us off even more. There was a young girl serving a full bar, and waiting on in the restaurant. She said that they were short staffed! The ‘chef’ was behind the bar and bringing the food out to the big table. They were taking walk ins for food. The waitress was struggling with the bar and people were waiting over 30mins for drinks. I’m from an F&B background and it was awful to watch. Especially when the pub was recommended.

We were a party of 16 having a pre Christmas lunch. The restaurant was accommodating in the request to where we were seated. Thank you for that. Being a large party we had pre booked our menu choices. We all opted for the Sunday lunch. Food was served promptly and piping hot. The children were served at the same time as adult starters and they all tucked in. The food was tasty and everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was extremely efficient with polite and friendly staff. Thank you to all the staff at the Queen's Head.
