Jim Of Bearwood
Sunday 31st May 2009, time 14-10 hours. It was a beautiful summer’s day, loads of people about, as we were in Bredwardine right on the River Wye, there were loads of potential customers about wanting good old British pub grub. Last year we had a meal in a pub in Hereford near the Racecourse, I had steak and ale pie, it consisted of dried up pastry very little gravy and 2 pieces of meat that was more gristle than meat, it closed down a little later. Sunday 31st May 2009, it was our daughters birthday and we wanted somewhere nice to go for a meal, we chose the Red Lion, Bredwardine, we were informed as soon as we asked about food that that they had stopped selling food at 14-00 hrs, but because 9 of us they would serve us, the menu was very limited about 6 or eight meals on the board, I chose beef stir fry, when it arrived there were 3 small pieces of what I assumed to be beef, hardly cooked and running with blood, covered in tasteless gravy. A bit of lettuce and loads of tasteless courgettes, a portion of chips was an extra £2-50, I would have thought they would have been included in the meal, to top it all off, a ring of orange. Our grandson couldn’t eat his burger!!!!!!!!! Why is it that pubs cant offer simple food like a Sunday roast, or a ploughman’s lunch, forget the fancy food that chefs choose to cook to show off their talents, give us good old simple English pub grub. We asked about deserts, there were none. We are hearing about 30 pubs a week closing down so why is it not possible to get decent food in many British pubs these days? We live in the Black Country in the West Midlands and serving up rubbish food like this would ensure the pub was soon boarded up. Jim of the Black Country.
