About The Rising Moon

Situated right on the eastern edge of Greater Manchester at Matley and enjoying a beautiful countryside location, The Rising Moon is a stylish Robinsons gastropub. Food is served every day between 12 noon and 8pm and there is a wide selection of home-cooked food with something to suit all tastes. Choices range from hot and cold sandwiches to salads and grills and a lots of mains ranging from steak pie to seabass fillets in a white wine sauce. There is a special Kids menu too, Sunday roasts and plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Wash it down with a pint of Robinsons ale, premium wines and spirits or maybe something off their new cocktail menu? The Rising Moon has an extensive beer garden and a children’s play area as well as a car park.

My daughter took me to The Rising moon with some trepidation: as a new cancer patient I’ve been staying home most of the time. We need not have worried: our lovely waiter showed us to a private booth and we felt very safe and out of the way. The food was as good as ever: fish and chips and chicken and bacon salad. Lovely visit, thank you xxx

Starters were lovely, the cheese and onion pie had a very thick pastry which I didnt like and it was quite bland compared to other places. The fish that my partner had was mushy inside which we would have expected it to be flaky. The service wasn't great either, like we were an inconvenience. Drinks took almost ten minutes to arrive once ordered. We were also placed right next to the toilets which is quite unhygienic and annoying when youre trying to have a meal and its like a revolving door of people constantly in and out of the bathroom. We wont be returning.

In the past I have had great meals here. Went there Friday night, I ordered comfit duck, good portion but it definitely wasn't comfit, it didn't fall off the bone as comfit duck should. Don't get me wrong the duck was nice but not as stated on the menu. My sister ordered braised beef in peppercorn sauce, it came as two slices of beef with sauce, the meat was tough so again definitely not braised. When the server asked her if it was ok she told them the meat was tough, they said they would speak to the kitchen. This probably wasnt done. My sister ordered a second drink and it was forgotten, we had to ask again, so service on the particular night not great either and a little slow. It's a great pub and would go again, we were just disappointed this time, we were expecting better.

Really nice food but the attitude of one of the staff members was so weird. It was like we were an inconvenience to his day! We asked about the “desert of the day” which is on the menu & he said “I’ve never heard of that, it’s not a thing” and laughed. We also told him the card machine wasn’t set up to take the payment and he just said “try again” but the value wasn’t inputted! So weird, don’t know if he was new but he just wasn’t friendly or helpful at all. We always have a great service from the guy from Bristol (I think), with the mullet hairstyle though, he’s really lovely!

The food here is always great. We come especially for the cheese and onion pie and rag pudding. Never disappointed!! Staff are friendly and polite. Only slight downside for me is that dogs are allowed in. I have nothing against dogs but if we brought our daughter it might be uncomfortable for her as she is allergic to dogs.
