About The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel

Manchester’s five-star Lowry Hotel has relaunched its iconic riverside dining and drinking offer after a seven-figure refurbishment programme. The hotel’s bar and two-AA-rosette restaurant have been completely remodelled featuring soft hues, a new layout and bespoke furnishings but of course retaining the unique riverside views and terrace. The River Restaurant promises a dynamic menu with new Executive Head Chef Dave Ashton at the helm giving diners a modern take on classic British cuisine. Alongside the a la carte menu, The River Restaurant will also continue to offer its popular three-course Sunday lunch and daily afternoon tea with its choice of 70-plus blends. The Lowry Lounge & Bar has a new feature bar and a choice of sociable or comfortable secluded seating. Long known as a luxurious hideaway for Mancunians in the know - and home to impromptu performances from some of the hotel’s high-profile guests including Lady Gaga and Take That - the new venue will run an entertainment and events programme featuring live performances most nights. The Lowry Hotel has 165 bedrooms and six suites, as well as a spa, restaurant and bar, and a variety of meeting and event spaces.

The best hotel in Manchester and one of the best restaurants too! Love it here, never fails to disappoint!

Took my wife for afternoon tea at the Lowry. She had the champagne version and we both loved it. The restaurant is a beautiful looking space to have afternoon tea. Lovely savouries and sweet treats and loads of different types of tea to choose from.

Without doubt the best lunch I have had this year! Slow cooked beef, seabass, soup, apple tart were all cooked perfectly. The space is still as beautiful as ever and service slick and professional. The waiting staff really looked after the Christmas parties they had in and made some old ladies on an adjacent table very welcome. New owners but thankfully they seem to have let the Lowry be. A few touches of Madchester about the hotel now, ie huge photos with Shaun Ryder and Jonny Marr, which adds to this uniquely Manchester hotel. Still the best in town!

Still the best hotel in Manchester.

We love the Lowry which is definitely Manchester's finest hotel. We always stay there when in town. 5 star service, a unique contemporary ambience, spacious bedrooms with everything one requires and a 2 minute walk to the boutiques of the ciry centre. We have always looked forward to breakfast in the beautiful restaurant and keep promising to eat there at night. On this stay we learned the restaurant had been renamed the River Bar and Grill, with a new menu and chef. So it was a no brainer to eat there. We were very glad we did. Carpaccio of beef and tuna, lobster and steak washed down with an excellent Crotes Hermitage. The waiting staff were what you would expect from a hotel like this. They made educated recommendations which we listened too. This has to be still one of the best looking restaurants in Manchester. Just a pity it's the Irwell not the Mississippi river it looks out over!

Had a great night at the Lowry. It's the perfect place to base yourself when in Manchester.

We went to the River Restaurant as my leaving meal - group of 7 people on a Saturday evening. We were lucky to have had the opportunity to have the 777 menu (all courses £7, fantastic bargain!) The restaurant looks great - bright, clean, welcoming, luxurious. We had a table by the window overlooking the river terrace. The attention we received from the staff was excellent & our meal was out of this world. We all had wonderful dishes & very impressed with the quality of the food, dish composition & taste. It was the most amazing offer & I have seen it has been extended until later this year. I would recommend the River Restaurant & would go again without a doubt. It would also be nice to just have a coffee or drinks on the terrace overlooking the river, weather permitting. Just go!

First the only gripe of the whole evening. The background muzac! It was the sort of generic house stuff that gets played in gyms and has no place in a 5* hotel dining room. Rant over, now the good bits. Two dined, arriving at 8pm, we were greeted in the bar and shown through to our table in the restaurant, which was about a third full. This surprised me as it was a Thursday, but then we were on a promotional offer so I suppose if they need to do promotions there is a reason for it! So seated, we receive our first glass of complimentary champagne. I couldn't see what label it was as it was in a bucket behind my seat, but as a not particularly big fan of champers, I thought this was jolly good. Choice of three breads was offered, White ,Brown and Beetroot. Good, but nothing to write home about. First course was a small coffee cup filled with delicious minted pea soup with pear and lobster. Gorgeous! Second course was two perfectly cooked roast Cornish scallops studded with black pudding and cider, with some sort of mayo like sauce. Very good, black pudding was just the right amount, didn't overpower the scallops. Third course was tournedos of Aberdeen Angus with horseradish mash and shallots jus. I had mine rare, dining partner had hers medium rare. I think medium rare was the better choice, as they are very thick fillets, and the heat hadn't quite got to the middle of mine. Other than that it was very good, served on wilted spinach over the mash-all lovely. Feeling rather full now, but without prompting we were asked if we would like a break before desert, gladly accepted! So after ten minutes(ish) we get pud. Bread and butter pudding with spiced raisin syrup, almost like a brulee. Very nice, especially the raisins/syrup. Really full now! Coffee and petit fours. Bill was £90 including large bottle of mineral water, service charge of ten percent and a round up tip. So for £45 a head I have to say it was extremely good value! 18/20
River Room
A truly enjoyable experience. Staff were subtly attentive, genuinely friendly, knowledgeable, about the product as a whole as well as being very confident in discussing wine, dessert options etc. I felt that they were really enjoying being there, almost as much as me, but not quite I expect.
River Room
Lunch at the Lowry was excellent. The food was delicious and light, simple and value for money. The service is what you'd expect from a five star hotel owned by Rocco Forte, in suroundings that are designed to make you feel special without the intimidating and cold atmosphere of other fine dining establishments...dinner is next on my hit list and I won't be driving!
