The roseland inn is a great pub in a lovely setting on the Roseland peninsular. As you come into the pub one of the first things that you notice is the bar serving area is actually lower than the bar. It is very strange looking down into the bar. The food is wonderful and well priced. Reasonable selection of beers and good wines. What more do you want.

I heard about this place recently, my wife and I decided to take the ferry across and walk the rest of the way. To say I was gobsmacked was an understatement...This is the best cuisine outside of London and I should know; I am a food critic for a national paper there. I spoke to Chef Stallard, a quite remarkable young man; his style and obvious passion remind me of a young Gordon Ramsey and Heston Blummanthal. His menus are a brave juxtaposition of simple British fare, with a modern twist that would put established names like Gary Rhodes to shame, the wine list superbly complimented the exquisite dishes...I cannot recommend this place highly enough. A journey worth making again.

I had heard about a new chef at The Roseland inn near St Mawes, so I paid a visit at lunchtime during the week. You can get there from Truro on the new King Harry ferry but I thought the longer drive would be good, the very Cornish lanes were testing but the scenery and pretty houses along the way set the scene. Philleigh is so beautiful; I arrived and received a bubbly greeting by the jolly staff. This was no ordinary pub menu or wine list for that matter, Proper Londonesque Gastro pub territory. I was spoilt for choice but saw a Turbot dish on the specials board, I love turbot. A large plate arrived looking fabulous, two large filets of Turbot sitting on mixed leaves with a pan-fried mash potato cake below, around the edge were chilli marinated sun blushed tomatoes and big crunchy capers, the saffron vinaigrette had a lovely sweetness that worked well with the fish and capers, I don? really have a large appetite but wolfed the whole lot down. Fantastic! Later the chef came out and I thanked him for a delicious lunch, he told me that the fish was the first of the season and came from a local day boat; he also told me that they had started a veg and herb garden at the back of the pub and all the meat came from farmers in the village. Commendable.

After many recommendations from locals and visitors alike we decided to visit The Roseland Inn on the last night of our 2 week break in Cornwall. And boy were we glad we did! The whole night was so enjoyable. The atmosphere was authentic with the cosy log fire and low beams, the welcome was warm and the service good. But what made this place really special to us was the quality of the food. The menu was fantastic - there was something for everyone. All the food seemed fresh and handmade and the dessert I had.... well it was the best I?e ever tried! A must for any visit to the area.
Roseland Inn
One of our favourite Pub Meals. Great Lamb Shanks. Great Real Ale and wine list. Fun night out.
