Excellent food with an ever changing menu. Nick the chef/owner never disappoints.
Saffron
Saffron Restaurant in the heart of Truro is a deceptively unassuming eatery. They've got an unpatronizing Young Diners Menu which kids love.
Monday lunchtime was buzzing, despite the fact that it was November, cold, wet and before everyone had awoken to the buzz of Christmas. Nik Tinney? display of Grilled Queen Scallops with Cauliflower Fritters and Mustard Dressing on my plate was so pretty it almost seemed a pity to disturb them: the feeling didn? last and each dainty morsel slipped happily to its destination. The fritters were an excellent combination of soft and crisp and the dressing well complimented the scallops.

One of Truro's finest restaurants the food is amazing the staff are fantastic and they're normally the same faces serving which says a lot for a restaurant if it can keep such good waiting staff. Try the club sandwich it's to die for and piri piri chips such a good way to enjoy potatoes! Oh and i must say that the lavender Brulee is to die for yum yum yum!

Disappointingly slow service, even though the place was half empty - my 11 and 8 year old daughters did very well to last the distance. My food was excellent especially the oysters and mussels. I expect that the pre-theatre special menu would have to include much speedier service.

Nik Tinney of Saffron in Truro is a man who knows how to cook - brilliantly. Ever keen to laud the producers of his raw ingredients, he devotes a page to their provenance and challenges his customers to make their own journey of discovery. Tiny thin rounds of bread, flavoured sharply with cheese or textured with nuts, set the scene for the meal. With attention to detail and unexpected combinations, Nik has created a menu which produces an edge of the seat anticipation with each course. Wild mushroom and cheese frittata with herb salad - a veritable long-playing record of taste - is a perfect light lunch choice and the puddings are a total triumph. Chocolate pizza, yes chocolate pizza, topped with award-winning Roskilly? Triple Choc Ice cream, and his dessert plate of seven variations of apple, are mind-popping. Rhubarb, gooseberry and summer fruits all receive the same treatment as their season arrives.

Do not be deceived by the apparently casual decor - everything here is of the highest standard. From the unusually extensive menu of carefully-sourced produce you can choose a meal as light or extensive as you wish. There is a good wine-list, including many by the glass, as well as speciality beers. You can eat as well at lunch-time as in the evening, and the service is always heart-warmingly cheerful and attentive. Saffron also provides the best pre-theatre suppers in the area, at times convenient to the play-goer.

I have been visiting Saffron for some 5-6 years now and have yet to be disappointed by a meal. The food is fresh and lovingly prepared and excellent value for money. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere, cool in summer and cosy on winter nights. Nik and Traci are very good hosts and employ delightful staff. Highly recommended!

The food at this little restaurant in Truro is consistantly good over the years I have been visiting it. Staff are knolegable and more complex or un-usual dishes are excecuted to the same standard. Only slight complaint that 'Church Pew' seating can become a little un-comfortable after a while!!

Had lunch on a special deal- steak and chips with a bottle of Belgian beer Grimbergen Blond, Firstly the steak and chips were fantastic and secondly its refreshing to see a Coenish restaurant breaking the mould and offering more interesting fayre and drinks. Will definately return.
