we went here for my sons 21st they were very friendly on the phone , we arrived 13 of us we told them we were having the 2 course meal which was on offer, once we told them that we were treated like out casts another female 21st party was given there own private room having been moved from the next table to us they were looked after and had there own chef cook in front of them this we thought was part the experience of this restaurant , we were left with just the food brought out to us already made , it took the shine off the whole evening , needless to say we made our excuses and left , the food was poor shrivelled up lettuce an very very small portions , it was a case of don't spend the cash , we ll treat you like trash , there wont be a revisit due to the inferior treatment of all my party , was such a shame and ruined the experience and for myself on behalf of my sons special day which can't be brought back, it was empty as well so they could of made an effort ,

We visited Sakura and absolutely loved it!! Amazing!! We spent quite a lot of money, but worth it for a special occasion.

I was very disappointed, I took my fiancee for her birthday, I sent a birthday cake in advance and they forgot to bring it out, they lost our bottle of wine, I had finished my main course before my girlfriend had even started hers, there was entertainment going on at other tables which we had to strain our necks to see but you couldn't even get a smile out of our chef, for what it cost I could of gone any where and got better service, I was hoping for a dining experience and got a total let down

After reading the comments about Sakura and having dined in Tokyo I was looking forward to an exciting evening, sadly it was more of a dull night out and certainly did not match a meal out in Tokyo. First I must add the food was excellent, you will not be disappointed with that, However, my expectation was to experience a little of Tokyo in Liverpool. The level of service and attention to detail in Japan left my experience very short of these expectations. Upon arrival we were offered the menu and despite the place being very quiet, we were the only ones in reception area, it took over 15 minutes to take a drinks order. Upon being show to our table, we gave our order to a rather uninterested waitress, and despite requesting our portion of Edamame beans to enjoy before our starters with our drinks, as is common in Japan, they arrived after our starters. I had requested two portions of Sashimi of which were delivered to our table and without even asking, if they were un-sure, were ‘plonked’ in front of my wife and despite the chefs obvious attention to detail and presentation, were place the wrong way round!! (This would NEVER happen in Japan) The Tappanyaki chefs were skilled and entertaining and prepared and presented the main course excellently, I choose the Kurage Wagyu Sirloin which was of excellent quality and would highly recommend. Again, however, upon requesting a jug of water, it took over 15 mins and 3 requests before we each got a glass each. Finally, when I went to pay, the lighting was so poor I could barely see the bill and the whole place looked like it was closing it was 9:30pm The young lady at front of house, whilst very polite, lacked charisma and confidence struggling to walk in her very high shoes, she appeared to be concentrating harder on this than customer attention. As the first person to welcome you, she should be more gregarious, show confidence and control and certainly smile more, front of house need to start your night and make you feel special Overall, we enjoyed the meal, but the whole experience could have been a whole lot more enjoyable if the staff, with the exception of the Chefs understood the Japanese ethic of service. The website exudes how your night will be filled with entertainment and excitement; maybe they should just make that statement for Saturday only Would I recommend it, yes but if you want excitement then it appears to be Saturday only for that

Having dined at Sapporo Teppanyaki, Etsu and Wagamama in Liverpool, I had high hopes for Sakura because I thought it would be authentic Japanese food. The restaurant itself is modern and simplistic (no frills or special decor unfortunately) and the food is average to good. If not for the early bird menu rates, I would rate this restaurant as overpriced. The portions are small and you will be hungry within 2 hours after your meal! What you're paying for is really the entertainment factor from the chefs and the ambience. The food is nice but you could really do with double the portions (and I'm only 7 1/2 stone so I can imagine what people with larger appetites would think!). All in all, a mediocre experience.

Visited on 9th July 2010, the receptionist was useless (apparently it was her first night), the chefs and the waiting staff were fantastic, the drinks are overpriced, chicken was pink but they happily let me order an alternative, the beef was amazing. The restaurant is trying to be high end but it's not quite delivering. Doubt I will be back anytime soon.

Just had the best Saturday night in years! Sakura in Exchange flags (behind the town hall) is the newest restaurant in town I think, and Dawn and I had heard quite a lot about it over the last few weeks. Sakura is in Exchange flags which is a square, that seems to capture the sunlight, and so when we arrived at eight there was a certain ambience. Outside there is a decked area and there where plenty of people enjoying an aperitif or two. The bar i s big but cosy and the atmosphere laid back. Our chef (love the sound of that) gave what i can only describe as a performance, as he chopped fish and meat flicked vegetables from the hot plate to god Knows where. At a table near ours a large party where celebrating a birthday the staff really made a fuss of them. We had Australian beef and Tempura prawns the tastes where sublime. Finally let me mention the lady saxophonist. don't know her name but she is so talented. She had everyone up dancing. Can't wait to get back to Sakura. Very soon I hope
