About Scene

Malvern Theatre has a history dating back to 1885 but the was rebuilt in 1998 with £7 million of lottery funding. The complex now comprises two theatres, a cinema, bar and Scene – a spacious and relaxed bistro café. It’s open daytime and evenings Tuesday to Saturday and serves a casual, Med-inspired menu with Tapas, Sharing Boards, Pizza and Weekly Specials. It’s fully licensed too and Scene is the obvious choice for pre-theatre dining as well as a pleasant daytime destination.

We have had meals and theatre night 2/3 years ago but this menu was disappointing and when we enquired was told that the restaurant changed hands 2 years ago. Next time we will eat at the hotel and then go to the theatre. The staff were excellent.

Concerned to see that there were not many people dining (it was midweek) and wondered if the bistro has recovered from covid absenteeism (Das Rheingold was very sparsely attended too.). Staff were attentive, friendly and helpful and service was prompt. We over ordered tapas but ate it all and enjoyed it.

having visited the scene many times before we were disappointed, staff were excellent, the food was not, please go back to bistro food , and leave the Mediterranean style food to the Mediterranean's who know what they are capable of. the number of empty tables last Saturday evening tell their own story.

In hindsight it was not surprising to find the restaurant only half full despite a full theatre. The menu of tapas and mezze was rather restricted . We chose fish mezze which consisted of tasteless small prawns on a bed of wet cabbage, slabs of smoked salmon on fresh lettuce leaves but no dressing and some rather over peppered mackerel accompanied by two slices of burnt edged bread. The staff were friendly and polite. Fortunately an excellent performance of Gilbert and Sullivan took away the taste left by supper.

We enjoyed a tasty lunch of 2 courses. The first was a seafood dish with bread and the dessert was a rich cheesecake. Both meals were most enjoyable and the service throughout was efficient with a clear wish from the outset to ensure that we were were well looked after. We will book again soon!

We have eaten in the theatre restaurant many times & on our recent visit were disappointed to find that the menu had changed from the more traditional three course meal. We had a pizza & a pasta dish, which were ok, but not really what we wanted. We do plan to return to the restaurant & try the tapas on our next visit to the theatre.

Pre show meal and drinks-Tapas was delicious, service was prompt and friendly. Marked 4/5 for atmosphere as there weren’t many diners on the night we went . Will definitely return! Thank you

We visited the restaurant for pre theatre dinner. The food was gorgeous and plentiful. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. Would definitely visit again . Loved it.

Pre-theatre meal so we just needed a simple salad, I had Greek Feta Salad, the OH had Chicken Caesar salad. Both well priced, well presented and 'meal sized' meals and tasty. Water immediately offered by the friendly waiter / manager. A glass of very nice Carmenere too. A pity there were only two other couples beside ourselves dining. Had the restaurant been more fully occupied, atmosphere would have been better. Come on Malvern, give it your support!
