Shaheens Indian has been trading for more than 35 years and is still as busy and popular as ever – sitting pretty at the top of Durham’s TripAdvisor rankings. It’s very much a family affair with matriarch Mrs Khan running the kitchen and both her son and daughter heavily involved in the business. The restaurant is open seven days a week from 5pm and is just a hundred yards from Durham Cathedral. It’s just one room and a bar with wooden floors and room for 36 diners. Expect authentic and bespoke dishes with the Kashmiri Balti a signature dish. No nuts are used and if you have any special requests, the kitchen is always happy to accommodate requests. Plenty of wines, beers, gins and soft drinks to accompany your meal and if you’re planning a party or event, the whole restaurant is available for private hire.
