Great place on a sunny day looking out over the River Wyre. Nowhere else like it on the Fylde.
Really bad service, most of food was ok but my chicken tasted off and when we complained they argued that all the rest of the chickens in that batch had been fine. Great, except another in our party who had that chicken dish had a bad stomach the next day. Rest of food not really great - bad to mediocre, depending on the dish - and service was abysmal. Someone should explain to chef what chicken Kiev is. We had to keep getting up for our own drinks, and we ended up cutting short our evening. We complained at the time but the response was a long way from satisfactory. Will be writing a formal complaint about a long list of issues.
Had my Birthday meal there with my brother and his partner. The food was excellent, There were only compliments form all three of us from start to finish. Friendly service too. I will definitely be going again. I didn't stay in the hotel as I live locally.
My folks used to live just up the road from here and it was always somewhere you passed by, just a riverside pub. Not any more! It's a must visit, even if you only call in for refreshment and to take in the estuary view. That would be a shame though as the cuisine is very good and the extensive menu chock full of dishes featuring local produce. Even at the busiest times, the service if excellent, the portions very generous and the ambience is super too. We only had one small criticism that the main course accompaniments could have been a bit lighter and more complementary. As we stayed for the weekend we also get to sample the excellent breakfasts too, which boast a truly com prhensive menu - featuring super kippers and smoked haddock. We'll be back (soon)!
Went for lunch on saturday with the mrs, it was excellent!! I had a massive pork chop with black pudding, mash and veg, the quality was really good. The other half had a sort of ploughmans platter which was also very good, high quality ingredients used and presented well. Will be back to try other things as it was a hard choice from a very varied menu.
We have visited the shard riverside inn a few times since we moved into the area, and each time has been a pleasure, the food and its service is first class, I am inclined to agree though that the bar service is a little surly, could do with someone behind there who isn't afraid to smile.
As a party of four we dined at the Shard Riverside last weekend (May 2010) and were pleasantly surprised at the friendly atmosphere, excellent service (the staff could not be more helpful) and the quality of the food served. We all had a different main meal from the wide ranging menu and no one was disappointed. Therefore the Shard comes highly recommended.
First time visit and a re renovation programme was well advanced. Still slightly bemused by the upholstery.
An excellent sandwich, though ,even if the bar service was a little surly.
8 of us (including 2 veggies) were looking for somewhere nice to eat out last weekend. We came across this great looking venue on the web. But unfortunately only 1 of the 15 mains was suitable for veggies. not really a great choice in this day and age. So went to Guys Thatched Hamlet instead....lovely food - great choices including many vegetarian options.
My partner and I have just had a very disappointing experience at the Shard Riverside Inn. Our order was taken after a 15 minute wait and having received the starter 20 minutes later we waited another hour before the main meals reached our table. One of them was incorrect. At this point we left without eating the mains and were not at least charged for our starter and 2 drinks. At no point in the hour before we received our main did anyone ask if we wanted a drink our inform us about the progress on our mains. In other words, the service was appalling, although the food appeared to be fine. This is a real shame as we have just moved into the area and were looking forward to taking advantage of the Shard and enjoying its unique location. We will not be returning. I would appreciate it if you could forward this to the Shard so that they can discuss how to improve their organisation. Thanks.
