About Shireburn Arms Hotel

Dating back to 1679, the Shireburn Arms is a hotel, function suite, pub and restaurant in the heart of the Ribble Valley at Hurst Green. It's just a mile from Stonyhurst College -- alma mater to Arthur Conan Doyle and reputedly where JRR Tolkein wrote Lord Of The Rings, basing 'the Shire' on the surrounding rolling Lancashire countryside. Today the Shireburn Arms has 18 smart bedrooms and a function suite that can accommodate up to 250 and is the perfect venue for a ‘country’ wedding. The restaurant showcases Lancashire produce and there’s a lounge bar with open fireplaces and breathtaking views from the patio and terrace. Bold paints and contemporary fabrics seamlessly combine with the building’s original architectural features to make the Shireburn Arms an idyllic rural retreat.

Great food. Gorgeous looking old pub, especially the garden and views at the back. Was all very safe with Covid regs too

I recently attended my brother's wedding and the venue was superb, from the excellent Thwaites on tap, friendly and efficient service to the delicious wild mushroom soup and magical views over the valley I could not fault this place. I thought it was excellent that even though the back room was enjoying the wedding celebrations, the front bar was still cosy and full of happy patrons mingling with the odd wedding guest looking for a quiet moment to enjoy a fine single malt by the open fire. The rooms were also excellent, spotlessly clean and with great attention to detail. Breakfast was well worth dragging our weary hungover bodies to, and I gazed out over the misty green hills while stuffing my face with an extra portion of black pudding. The perfect remedy. Excellent place, great service and a good selection of cigars!!

First visit - on entering the bar/restaurant we were slightly put off by "the best man's speech" being piped through the speakers quite loudly - very nice if you are guests at the wedding but slightly uncomfortable if you aren't.. anyway after asking the manager to switch it off (5 mins later he did so) - we were shown to our table it seemed everyone dining that evening was placed albeit squeezed into one area of the restaurant - menu pretty mixed if slightly confusing for a country pub/bar restaurant - Chinese, Indian, french, British dishes which were ok definite room for improvement but we did go expecting traditional British food.. nice place and surroundings but we wont be rushing back - Aug 07

What an excellent place, the food was piping hot although very traditional all the dishes had a very modern twist. The friendliness of the staff was exceptional, warm, efficient, very professional but not over facing. The views from the restaurant where sensational, and coffee was served on the patio, nothing to much trouble. We will be returning
