About Spoon World Buffet and Bar

Spoon World Buffet and Bar first opened in Chatham in 2012 and now has branches in Ipswich, Portsmouth and Basildon, housed within the Eastgate Shopping Centre. Each follows the same successful formula of providing diners with a huge choice of dishes and cuisines from around the world at one fixed price. You will not go hungry at Spoon! There’s a choice of Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Italian, Carvery and Kebab as well as a selection of Desserts. And live cooking stations include Teppanyaki, Pizza, Pancakes and Roasts. Spoon is fully licensed and is open from 5pm weekdays and 12 noon at weekends.

We arrived as it opened and as such the food was freshly prepared. The staff were all very nice and helpful. They were continuously cleaning and making sure the food was presented well. The selection of food was very good. We love all different cuisines and we were not disappointed with the selection. The quality of the food was in the main way above average for a cheap buffet. Some dishes needed more flavour as the sauces were slightly under seasoned and lacking in flavour. But on a scale like this it was still impressive to have an overall standard like this. They did charge my 13 year old daughter full adult price based on her height, but also charged my mum full adult priced and she was under the height limit. This was very disappointing. I wish I would have confronted them about it, but I didn't want to make a scene. You cannot have one rule for one, and not another, make a rule and stick to it, for this reason I would not return.

Food is basic but we always enjoy it. Slightly on the dear side for what you get. Chairs and booths could do with upgrading as they are starting to loose shape and look old and the toilets are just about in working order. facilities need updating with locks on the door and working toilet seats.

Yes — that makes the point much stronger, particularly about how the policy affected your daughter. Very disappointing and insensitive pricing policy. My daughter is 10 years old, yet Spoon charged us the full adult price simply because she is over 150 cm tall. She already has a complex about being tall, so being singled out and effectively told her size meant she should be treated as an adult made her feel awkward and self-conscious. A child’s height does not make them an adult. They wouldn’t dream of charging a child differently because they were overweight, so why is it acceptable to judge them by height? Children come in all shapes and sizes. Pricing should be based on age, not a child’s body size. A simple id check would be a better way to go! We certainly won’t be returning.

Hmm. I had heard good things about this restaurant but I wasn't impressed. Just under £100 for 4 people without drinks and you were eating off plastic plates. The food was average and the sushi cheap and dissapointing. Won't go again.

Well, how should I put it? I didn't like everything—far from it. The sushi was disgusting, and none of the four duck options were tasty; there were plenty of chicken dishes, but I didn't find a single one I enjoyed. I did like the mussels in the shell, one type of shrimp, the beef (which was delicious), and the wheat sprouts. However, I have to point out that the pork ribs were incredibly tough, as was another pork dish. Personally, I wouldn't go back there. Also, 3.50 for a glass of a drink is very expensive. Sorry for the negative review, but you really need to rethink things.

Very disappointed booked for my daughters 13th birthday meal paid out £150.00 for food that was meant to be hot and it wasn't looked like left over old food won't be recommending anybody to go there the floor was sticking and needed washing and the toilets were dirty as well so our special birthday meal was ruined really.

First and last visit. We were met on arrival by a lovely lady who led us to the bar. The man behind the bar demanded we order a drink - didn't give us any menus or explanations as to pricing and drinks available. Didn't let us know pricing and just told us to pay an amount on the card machine. We were led to a table that was clean. Most of the food was not hot and luke warm at best. Chicken - as mentioned by other reviews tasted awful and put me off eating the other chicken dishes. Prawn toast was, by far, the best bit of the meal. Crispy duck was tasteless and worryingly, hard to chew, almost like there were crushed bones in it. Non chocolate coated profiteroles was the best dessert. Eclairs had this weird off tasting custard filling. Plates were not cleared until we were leaving the table. This place could be so good but, unfortunately, we will not be coming again to find out.

I am not agree with price to child, ticket for child should be chipper,than adult's ticket and their height does not matter.But food is delicious!!!
