We visited the Stafford Arms last night (24 April 2009) to celebrate my Grandma's 89th Birthday. Being located next to the cricket club and having childrens play facilities in the beer garden first impressions are one of family friendly pub - how wrong could one be. We arrived at the pub for opening time 5.30 there were 8 adults ranging from 27 - 89 and one child aged 5 and we were told to sit outside as no children are allowed in the pub. So taking this in our stride we helped my elderly grandma into the beer graden which is down a small banking (no footpath provided) and everyone got their coats from the car - after calling prior to going to the pub to check opening times you would think they would inform that children we not allowed - anyway rules are rules. So next thing was ordering the food, the woman behind the bar was the most rude and miserable person i had met for a very long time. The only pleasant experience about the whole outing was the fish and chips on the menu so compliments to the chef and the young waitress who served (my advice to them is get out while you can).
