I visited this restaurant yesterday with my friend for a meal. On arrival we were told that our table was not ready and was shown to the bar area where they had two cocktails on offer. We proceeded with the cocktails and they were refreshing. We were shown a menu from which my firend and I chose the sea bass, only to be told that they did not have a delivery that day and offered the sowrdfish instead. We politely declined, and we did not have to wait long before going upstairs into the dining area. The decor was immaculately presented, what you would expect for fine dining. However no one took our coats even though there was an area downstairs for this. It was not a busy for the time we booked. My friend ordered potato and leek soup, which was referred to as "Gloop" taste was there, texture was not, as thick. I ordered the mussels in wine and for me, they got this right, in terms of quantity, this was enjoyable. The bread/toast was not enough as only given one slice. There was no butter on the table, no soup spoon was given, no salt and pepper on the table, or even offered. No finger bowl for the mussels. We asked for some wine and felt the waiter did not offer us any choices, in the end, we asked to see the wine list, which ranged from £18 for house to £29, we felt this was rather pricey for what was what offer, french, italian, spanish, and these were standard. The mains were lamp rumps with potato, however side dishes were extra. The mains were lovely. Overall, I do not think this restaurant has got it right in terms of service, we felt that they were charging fine dining prices, so one woud expect a more attentative service. I also feel that they would have taken more money from the customer, if they had the timining right as customers would be prepared to pay for good food and service and for the experience.

It was my first time visiting this place last night and probably my last as whilst the food was lovely (I can't take that away from them) I wasn't too impressed with the service. I had booked this on the basis of a deal on Sugarvine - 2 courses for £12.95 - and I had emailed them specifically asking about this deal and requesting a booking on that basis, so they knew that was the deal we intended to go for. We got there, sat at the table in the restaurant upstairs - there was one menu on the table so naturally we ordered from it. Then when the bill came it was over what we expected to pay as they were charging normal price. Apparently we should have ordered from the 'menu du jour' i.e. the specials menu, but as noone gave that to us when we arrived, there was no such extra menu on the table or on the walls around the restaurant I suppose we were meant to be mind readers and have asked for it. There is a menu board on the street outside the restaurant and down in the bar area apparently. I just think this is poor and a bit of a con really as we wouldn't have had 2 courses on a quiet Wednesday night if we hadn't thought the deal applied. The owner did apologise to be fair to him but didn't actually do anything about it (not even a free drink) and avoided us after we complained. I think this is poor management of customer expectations. As nice as it may have been there are plenty of other places as good where the service is better so I'll give it a miss in future.

Was very disappointed with the food here. The mushroom pate starter was such an usual/bad taste that no one in our party of 6 wished to eat it! All the other starters we had were very small and not good value for money, nor enjoyable. Three of us had the lamb for main which were small and tough to eat - not enjoyable. The steak was over cooked. And the asparagus tart was burnt to a crisp (which they did remove from our bill after we notified them). The side dishes were overpriced and small. We were the only ones in the restaurant, but even so they were unable to serve 6 edible enjoyable plates of food. We ended up stopping at Sainsbury's on the way home for some sandwiches as we all felt hungry. We would definitely not return

I agree with others that this is a great restaurant. We (four of us) visited Friday night and started with some excellent cocktails followed by a fabulous meal. The service was attentive but not over the top, which is exactly what we like. Overall we highly recommend this restaurant and will be back!

I went here with my husband on Friday evening to celebrate his birthday. We booked a table for 8pm but arrived early so sat downstairs and had cocktails in the bar. As it was happy hour it was 2 for 1 on cocktails which was even better. After the drinks we went for our meal upstairs in the restaurant. We were surprised that there was only a table of 4 there and the rest was empty and when they left we had the whole place to ourselves for a while (told hubby I'd arranged it so we could have the whole restaurant). Anyway the service was very good and the food was delicious and very filling. We were surprised not to see more people there but considering it was a cold January night this may explain it. We would definitely go back to this restaurant and would recommend it highly to others.

What a fantastic restaurant. The reception we got when we entered, the service to our table, the waitress, the food...I could go on and on. We got there early and our table wasn't ready so my boyfriend and I had a drink at the bar. We were then taken to our table and given the menu. There are so many great things to choose from, and so many unusual dishes. We had to spend quite a while deciding as everything looked and sounded so great. When the food arrived we weren't disappointed either. It was great. The waitress was lovely as well, she gave us the perfect amount of attention. Would definitely suggest going here and will definitely be going there again!

The valentine menu was amazing; the waiters/waitress’s are attentive and friendly. I can’t fault the place. I will return back to Bacchanalia in the near future. It was the perfect way to end Valentines Day!

We booked very late and when we arrived noticed that they had a large group in the restaurant. They seated us at a nice table and we wre pleasantly pleased with the ambience. The waitress was fantastic she was very attentive but not too in your face. I must say given the fact that they were busy she did a great job. I think she is probably the best waitress I have had, definitely the best I have been served by in Manchester. We were very impressed with the selection in the menu, we spent quite a while choosing because their were lots of really good dishes. When our food arrived we were not disappointed, the food was very well cooked and presented. I have been in Manchester for 6 months and as I am here with my company we eat out at least 3 times a week. It was the best meal I have had in Manchester and I have had some very good meals. Definitely highly recommended

I went to this restaurant bar many times before I tried the food because the cocktails are so good. I've been hooked ever since trying the Sunday roast, which was cooked to perfection and have told all of my girlfriends who have been equally impressed- especially the veggies. I have a gluten intolerance so find it extremely difficult to find a menu with more than a few options, but Bacchanalia caters and adapts the food excellently for me. The staff are always inviting and friendly and the place always look smart- even at 2am on a Saturday night, which is a bonus!

I recently went to Bacchanalia for lunch and I cannot fault the restaurant. The service was impeccable, attentive but not conspicuous, the food was very yummy (particularly the moules marinere and their speciality burgers) and great value for money. A hidden gem!
