About The Barn Garden Centre Cafe

The Barn Garden Centre Café at Stanway, west of Colchester, is open every day for breakfast and lunch serving a café/bistro-style menu. It’s a light and airy space and there’s also al fresco dining on the terrace, which is partially covered. The menus are regularly updated and sit alongside daily seasonal specials. Traditional breakfasts and luxuries including Smoked Salmon and Eggs Benedict. On-trend lunches and lighter bites include Buddha Bowls, House Salads and favourites such as Fish & Chips. All food is locally sourced and cooked fresh to order. Bakery lines and cakes are made in-house daily and desserts vary from homemade Lemon Meringue Pie to warm Bakewell Tart. The Barn Garden Centre Café is fully licensed too and offers a range of beers, wines and spirits.

Had a lovely lunch at The Barn yesterday. Usually have open club sandwich which sadly is no longer on the menu but had the open BLT which was delicious. A lovely place to come.

The food was lovely. I go there regularly and always enjoy it. This time seemed different. We had to request a quieter table since we felt shoved between lots of people onto a small table when other tables were obviously free. The host who seemed to be the manager wasn’t the most warmest person and we were left sitting for ages after we finished our food for someone to come and take an order for tea and cake. We ended up going up ourselves to order in the end and eventually our table was cleared. I can only assume that the usual friendlier staff are on holiday,

We booked for 2 pm for Sunday lunch and was served quickly and politely, with Drinks and delicious Sunday Roasts served quickly. Unfortunately when we tried to order sweets was told that the kitchen was now closed and only cakes were available. So a bit disappointed that we couldn’t finish our meals. I wish I’d been told of this closure before we booked and we would have booked earlier.

Very good food, although the barn small breakfast could have done with a gluten free sausage. Good gluten free options. Staff friendly and attentive. Very enjoyable. A hidden gem.

We were alarmed to notice that staff picked up cutlery by the part that is put in the mouth. Not having washed hands before doing so. Also there was a member of staff with long black hair that was not kept in a neat order and was constantly flicked back, with open uncooked food being distributed . Even in the kitchen area hair was being flicked about. Other wise the good we had was excellent.
