About The Barn Garden Centre Cafe

The Barn Garden Centre Café at Stanway, west of Colchester, is open every day for breakfast and lunch serving a café/bistro-style menu. It’s a light and airy space and there’s also al fresco dining on the terrace, which is partially covered. The menus are regularly updated and sit alongside daily seasonal specials. Traditional breakfasts and luxuries including Smoked Salmon and Eggs Benedict. On-trend lunches and lighter bites include Buddha Bowls, House Salads and favourites such as Fish & Chips. All food is locally sourced and cooked fresh to order. Bakery lines and cakes are made in-house daily and desserts vary from homemade Lemon Meringue Pie to warm Bakewell Tart. The Barn Garden Centre Café is fully licensed too and offers a range of beers, wines and spirits.

We enjoyed an excellent lunch, great food and good service in a lovely atmosphere. Fish and chips were great as were the arancini which were tasty but there could have been 3 rather than 2. Yummy cake and pudding too.

There were three of us and was our first visit to The Barn. We were very impressed with the beautifully displayed clothes, furniture, plants etc. As a Coeliac I was a bit hesitant about finding Gluten free food. The staff were exceptional in explaining the choices and I had a gorgeous open sandwich and my friends were really happy with their choices, The restaurant is spacious with a great atmosphere, We thoroughly enjoyed our few hours visit and will definitely return! Congratulations on a wonderful experience!

We had a great lnch in the beautiful cafe surrounded by the Christmas stock. We enjoyed our lunch and cake followed by a browse around the shop. Lovely. Food great, service great, setting great.

Unfortunately, my husband and I were very disappointed yesterday - our first ever time to the Barn and the restaurant; the menu was limited, we both went for the chicken burger and chips, 1 diet coke and 1 banana bread coffee; £45!!! We had no cutlery given to us even when our food arrived so are with our hands, th coffee was lukewarm so not enjoyable, and the burger was like a frozen chicken fillet burger, no coleslaw on the side or inside, chips all covered with corn flour, whole meal tasteless and small portion - ridiculous, so upset and wasted £45. Still in shock.

Lovely food. Delightful staff BUT insufficient staff to cope on a busy Friday. Order taken reasonably quickly. Food delivered reasonably quickly. Unable to attract the attention of a server to order coffee for a very long time (almost abandoned the whole idea) and subsequently a very long wait for coffee. Also your lovely restaurant manageress was coping with a long line of customers who had booked tables, handing out cutlery , showing people to their tables etc. It really didn't flow, and she was doing her best under difficult circumstances.

Table of 3, 1.15pm and busy, busy, busy. Despite this food was delicious and service was friendly and attentive, not at all rushed and we were revisited to check all was well. I visit quite regularly and it’s never been anything other than fabulous. The garden centre is well stocked and there’s a fabulous clothing, interiors & gift shop too.
