Now is the perfect time to discover the fabulous food in the heart of one of Surrey’s prettiest villages. Head chef Fred Clapperton has certainly made a big impact since taking over the reins at the stove here. The Clock House (formerly known as Drake’s), has been awarded a Michelin star and three AA Rosettes as well as other awards and receives rave reviews. Fred has a passion for creativity and design, embracing the seasons and their bounty. Expect locally sourced produce, including English wines, spirits and beers from smaller, lesser-known producers. Make time for the elegant, yet cosy, bar or beautiful walled garden for pre- and post-dinner drinks. Tasting menus or a la carte plus a great-value set lunch are available Wednesdays to Saturdays. Booking is advisable, especially at the weekend.
